Appearance[]
Zerceus has pale, bluish skin and a white beard. He is also tall and thin.
Personality[]
Zerceus is a cunning royal supremacist who believes that all mixed-bloods are beneath them. Since he opposes the current government, Zerceus is very cautious and ruthless. He has no qualms about causing the deaths of many civilians to reach his selfish ambitions.
During his encounter with the Demon King Anos Voldigoad, it's indicated that Zerceus never revered the founding ancestor but only used his name to further his own selfish interests. Ultimately, proving himself to be no different than Ahid Alovo Agartz.
History[]
Zerceus is the head of the Angart family and the second most powerful demon in Midhaze, after Demon Lord Elio. He played a part in Midhaze's administration, as he attended all the meetings to discuss new policies, and his opinions were always valuable. [2] After the war with Azesion, Zerceus, Elio, and Melheis visited Gairadite numerous times to negotiate with the humans.[3]
Zerceus was known for promoting harsher policies on royalty, but this would revealed to be a cover for his true beliefs.[2] When the segregation of royal and mixed-blood demons was abolished, Zerceus formed the Resistance, a covert group that disapproved of Midhaze's new decree and clung to its old ways of royal supremacy. As such, he dismissed Demon King Anos as a fake that was planted by the Unitarians. They also had the help of a mysterious benefactor, Ahid Alovo Agartz, who supplied them with a weakened dragon for their plans.[4]
Synopsis[]
Selection Trial Arc[]
When Anos abolished the nobility system, Zerceus was one of the many royals who secretly opposed the change. While seeking to recruit more members, Zerceus is introduced to Anosh Polticoal by Ramon Iver, not knowing that it is Anos in disguise. Since Anosh demonstrated his mastery of magic, Zerceus asks him to demonize a restrained dragon and have it rampage in Midhaze. However, the dragon goes out of control and is taken down by Anosh.
Because Zerceus broke one of Dilhade's three rules, Anos reveals himself and uses Nedneliaz on him and his men. Under the effect of the collars, they would be in a dream where they are killed over and over by Anos unless they work for him to convert all the other rebels. After experiencing the effects multiple times, the heavily traumatized group finally kneels before Anos. Only once he and the others have completed their assigned task will the collar be removed.
Ahid later contacts him again, saying he found a way to take over Midhaze, so Zerceus pretends to be interested. Because Ahid used a falcon familiar this time, which Zerceus recognizes from the Gairadite Royal Palace, Anos learns of a possible connection between Azesion and the dragon attacks. As a result, the Demon King Army was ready to intercept the incoming dragon horde and foil Ahid's plans.
Abilities[]
- Political Savviness: Zerceus' aptitude for politics made him the second most powerful person in Midhaze and earned him a seat in the negotiations with Azesion.[3] Because of his anti-royalty policies, no one suspected that he was secretly building a pro-royalty rebel group.
Relationships[]
Anos Voldigoad[]
His founding ancestor. Due to being a mixed-blooded demon, Zerceus refused to acknowledge him as the true Demon King and secretly plotted to overturn his just society. He considered it their royal duty to bring down the impostor and that justice was on their side.
Upon being cornered, he shamelessly blamed Anos for creating them, unwilling to take responsibility for his actions. Because if Anos hadn't left his royal blood to create descendants for his reincarnation, their privileged group wouldn't have arisen. In response, Anos replies that people like him exist in every era. If not for their blood, Zerceus would've found another excuse to be in power. People like him, with no pride or love and who exist solely for their own benefit, are nothing more than dogs that need to be leashed.[4]
After experiencing Nedneliaz, Zerceus began following Anos' commands without question and even helped thwart Ahid's invasion.
Ramon Iver[]
His low-ranking subordinate, whom he entrusted with recruiting royal demons for their cause. When Ramon brought him the talented Anosh, Zerceus promised him an executive position. However, this was their downfall, as Anosh was secretly Anos in disguise. He called Ramon an incompetent fool for confessing everything to Anos and then burned him with Gresde, as the Demon King was going to spare them even if they all remained silent. After dying multiple times under the effects of Nedneliaz, the two appear to have forgotten their falling out and now obediently work for the Demon King.
