“ | It's alright. Just do what you want to do, the way you want to do it. It doesn't matter if you're crazy or not. If you want to deceive, lie; if you want to envy, be jealous; if you want to obsess, do it. If you die miserably because of it, then that's what you really want, isn't it? I don't call it living if you live peacefully while pretending to be something you're not. | „ |
— Yzak[2] |
Yzak (イザーク Izāku?), also known as the Living Disaster (災人 Wazawai Hito?), is the Chief God and Sovereign of the Disaster Abyss World Evezeino.
Appearance[]
Yzak has blue eyes and hair reminiscent of a lion's mane with frost bits at its end. He has sharp, ferocious fangs and a beastly expression.[3] He wears a white uniform.
Personality[]
Yzak acts according to his cravings and lives to satisfy his own desires.[1] He is very eccentric and as whimsical as one can get. He is ferocious and wild but is self-aware of the fact that he's viewed as crazy. His do-what-you-want-to-do mentality is what makes him such an unpredictable wild card.
History[]
Yzak is both the Chief God and Sovereign of Evezeino, which is likely possible due to his unique nature as a half-god, half-demon. As a calamity that destroys the world on a whim, Yzak possesses enough power to be considered one of the Inviolable Waters. He led his world in numerous battles against the Holy Sword World Hayfolia, whose world and inhabitants were fundamentally different than his. Whereas Yzak and the phantom beasts were driven by irrational craving, Hayfolia's noble hunters were driven by irrational righteousness. Yzak battled its Sovereign, the legendary Holy King Ordov Heinriel, and gained a begrudging respect for him.
It's believed that he lost interest in the world a long time ago, and fell asleep since that was his strongest craving at the time, though he will awaken when someone that could stimulate his craving appears.[1]
However, the truth is that Yzak went to sleep after making a promise to Ordov. When Ordov realized Evezeino was alive and would move to devour Hayfolia, he tried blessing Evezeino with Eife's order, but Yzak drove them back. An injured Ordov would allow Yzak to take his head, questioning the path he took. He wondered if the Rainbow Road, which guided Hayfolians to hunt the phantom beasts, was really the embodiment of their conscience as it was told. If Hayfolia's blessing could quench Evezeino's craving, wouldn't it mean the same powers are at work? Then, were Yzak's cravings really his? If he was right, it would mean they were wrong all this time.[4]
Intrigued, Yzak went to sleep in order to weaken Evezeino's order and stop its craving, giving Ordov the opportunity to find the true Rainbow Road and change Hayfolia. When he wakes up, the two could drink together if Ordov was right.[4] Afterward, Ordov hid him in a temple in Hayfolia. Towards his old age, Ordov would send Yzak back to Evezeino with the Two-Laws Usurper Noah's help, realizing that he was still incapable of finding the Rainbow Road, though he never gave up trying.[5]
Synopsis[]
Disaster Abyss World Arc[]
During the infiltration of Evezeino's Phantom Beast Organization, Anos finds the frozen Yzak in their research tower with a magic circle thawing the ice out. He finds it odd since Evezeino's public stance is to prevent him from waking up. It's later revealed to be the work of Naga Arzenon, who did so because their world would become unstable without the Chief God. As a result, a meeting between the Six Upper Academies will be held in a few days to discuss their next course of action.
Holy Sword World Arc[]
However, Yzak awakens ahead of schedule and crashes the meeting, demanding to see Ordov because of a promise. His successor, Lebrahard Heinriel, informs him that Ordov has retired to a shallow world, so it will take time to contact him. Yzak decides to destroy Pablohetara instead to get his attention, but Anos blocks his punch. After testing his strength, Yzak leaves, giving them three days to bring him Ordov or he will destroy Hayfolia.
When Anos and Arcana come to Evezeino to ask about the promise, Yzak initially remains silent, but changes his mind when Anos reveals his knowledge of Yzak being hidden in Hayfolia. He tells them that Evezeino is moving to Hayfolia on its own, like a hungry beast toward prey, but refuses to tell them more until he sees Ordov. Hayfolia's Hunting Nobles appear afterward, causing the Disaster Abyss World to accelerate. Anos theorizes something else might be controlling his world, as Yzak is waiting for Ordov while Evezeino is clearly accelerating toward Hayfolia. Yzak offers to show Anos around, but only after Ordov comes. Since this is impossible, as Ordov was recently found in critical condition after being imprisoned in a deserted world, a fight breaks out.
Due to his order, Anos' attacks freeze before they can touch Yzak's source. He counterattacks by empowering his claws to maul Anos and tear open the sky. The two continue trading blows until Yzak grabs Anos and kills him. Anos revives with Ingall and then uses Gilieriam Naviem to strengthen his spells. After figuring out Yzak's order, Anos sends a Deepened Raviaz Gilg Gaverizd to the past, bypassing his order as he had already taken the blow.
Weakened, Eife arrives and binds Yzak, but he breaks free after Anos drags her ship into the Disaster Abyss of Craving. He tries to chase after them but is stopped by Balzarondo and Lay. Even with Evansmana, they barely manage to survive against Yzak. Soon, Evezeino calms down after Anos defeats the Karakuri God manipulating it, and severing the Disaster Abyss of Craving from it. Even so, Yzak insists on continuing the fight as he grasps Lay's remaining source. However, he lets go when Lay's Rainbow Road appears, showing him a Zecht contract stating that he will become Holy King. Despite his belief that Hayfolia wouldn't change, he sees Lay's determination and gives him a month, laughing as Ordov had sent him a replacement.
Yzak later attends Ordov's funeral in the Militia World, and has one last conversation with his old friend. After fist-bumping Yzak's knee, Ordov passes away peacefully knowing that their worlds stopped fighting, and begins reincarnating.
Abilities[]
- Frozen Prison of Calamity: Yzak's order, which freezes all future possibilities of fatal damage occurring to his source or his world, Evezeino. If the possibility of damage occurring to his source arises, that future is instantly frozen. The power of the order is so strong that it can even freeze the likes of the world-destroying magic Egil Grone Angdroa. However, it cannot freeze magic that has no potential to be dangerous to his source[6], or events that have already occurred in the past.[7] His order can also be countered by those that possess Hayfolia's blessing power, such as the Blessed Lady Eife's order[8] or Evansmana, as they directly oppose Evezeino's order. However, this also works in reverse and is based on the circumstances of the clash of powers.[9] His order also freezes the raindrops that fall into the Abyss of Craving, suppressing its power and preventing Evezeino inhabitants from succumbing to their cravings, thus keeping Evezeino in order.[10]
- Immense Magic Power: Yzak's magic power has a cold nature surrounding it that even slight contact is enough to freeze one whole. As the Chief god and Sovereign of his world, he possesses near-bottomless magic power. Additionally, as one of the Inviolable Waters, a group of extremely powerful beings that are feared across the Silver Water Holy Sea for their power, Yzak is possibly the most powerful Chief God in the Silver Water Holy Sea, far beyond than even Equis, the Chief God of the Militia World. He demonstrated enough power to fight on par against Anos Voldigoad, and on later against Lay Grandsley, who was wielding a reforged Evansmana, and was being aided by Balzarondo Freneros, a master hunter. Even without the power of his order, he still possessed immense power as demonstrated when Arcana sealed his order with her own, being able to overwhelm her regardless.
- Conceptual Existence: Gods maintain and embody the order and laws of the world.[11]
Relationships[]
Ordov Heinriel[]
Originally, Ordov and Yzak were hostile to each other, becoming arch-enemies as their worlds battled over the years. However, Ordov gained some measure of respect for the Living Disaster and confided in him about his desire to find the true Rainbow Road. Yzak would reciprocate his trust by going into slumber, betting on Ordov's dream as he entrusted his life to him. Even after waking up, he actively sought to meet Ordov and confirm his findings.
During Ordov's final moments, Yzak came to visit him, bringing the bottle of alcohol that he promised to bring in case Ordov found the true Rainbow Road. Ordov was pleased to see him and told him that their paths didn't diverge.
It is noted that their relationship heavily parallels the relationship shared between Hero Kanon/Lay and Anos, with the two going from arch-rivals to friends over the course of their battles.
