— Anoshu to Misha |
A Prayer For Two Thousand Years Later (二千年後に祈りを込めて Nisen-nengo ni Inori o Komete?) is the ninth episode of The Misfit of Demon King Academy II anime series.
Synopsis[]
To prevent a clash that may happen between Anos and humans 2,000 years in the future, Hero Kanon proceeds with the plan to become an imposter Demon King himself, with Shin agreeing to this decision. Gradually but surely, Shin begins to change, and Leno realizes that she loves him. However, after fulfilling his duty to protect her, Shin begins to leave her side...
Summary[]
At an abandoned mansion, the headless body of Erdomaid tells Ziek about his plan to usurp NousGalia's divine powers. The spell is incomplete, but Avos Dilhevia should be able to complete it. Hero Kanon created the fake Demon King as a scapegoat for humanity's hatred. Still, NousGalia planned to take advantage of it and create a Child of God, a Great Spirit based on the Demon King of Tyranny. Outside, Anoshu and Misha spy on the two of them.
On Aharthern, Hero Kanon asks Shin to stand beside him as he pretends to be the Demon King. The Humans are planning their revenge against Anos, but Kanon will play the role of Demon King so Anos won't have to fight again. Shin attempts to cut Kanon's neck in response, but lets him be since his plan won't succeed. Kanon notices that Shin has changed and that Leno fell in love. Leno runs to Shin after realizing her feelings, but Shin plans to return to Delsgade and reincarnate to be with his lord. She states that it isn't fair, as she can't compete with Anos, who has known him for far longer. As a token of gratitude for their time, Shin grants Leno one request, so she asks him to marry her.
After their wedding, Leno asks Shin how he met Anos. He had already obtained a body during the Great War and defeated many famous demons. Shin then encountered the Demon King Anos but couldn't slash him even with his one hundred swords. Thanks to Anos, he finally found what he longed for—someone worthy to wield him. Afterward, Leno consummates her marriage with Shin.
Leno collapses sometime later, so Enyunien informs her that she's pregnant. The rumors that form the baby's source are still faint, so her own source is compensating for it. When she asks Shin to name their baby, he picks "Gord" if it's a boy and "Misa" if it's a girl. He considers staying for them, but Leno reminds him that he's the Demon King's right-hand man. She won't be as selfish as to ask him to stay. She then hands him a page about the Love Spirit Fran, who lends their body to the deceased so they can reunite with their loved ones. This way, she will be able to meet him in the future.
Shin returns to Delsgade and attempts to reincarnate, but the tithi alerts him that Leno is about to disappear. NousGalia, in the form of Erdomaid's disembodied head, reveals that the child isn't a product of their love, but because of the miracle he granted them. He also shows her the page that was newly added to the books of spirits— Avos Dilhevia, whose rumors and lore form her baby's source. The Heavenly Father then uses magic to accelerate the baby's growth, causing her to be born prematurely. To save her baby, Leno uses her ability to birth a new spirit, Ezyssey, who will take the baby to the future, where the Demon King will surely save her.
Shin arrives and kills NousGalia, but it's too late. Having birthed a half-demon, Leno contradicted her rumors of being the mother of spirits and disappearing as a result. She apologizes to Shin for being unable to teach him love and asks him to kill her baby if she ever threatens the world's peace. However, Shin promises to protect her even if it means betraying his lord. As the baby is being transported to the future, Shin carves the name "Misa" on her cradle, stating that she IS their daughter, the proof of love she gave him. After Leno's death, Shin puts down his sword in the flower garden as a grave marker. The spell ends afterward, sending Anos and his group back to the present, crying after witnessing Misa's origins.

Adaptation Notes[]
Differences from the light novel:
- Shin mentions that the demons he fought before meeting Anos possessed love. The anime goes beyond to show that one of them was Luche's lover, as shown by the locket he dropped with her picture.
- The wedding ceremony is simplified a lot. All spirits were supposed to be present instead of some. In addition, the spirits displayed their power to bless the couple, and even Anos' group joined in.
- Lay and Shin also had a match as part of Ronron's blessing. This was supposed to be Lay's first time unlocking the Hidden Art of a sword.
