Go on and wallow in your dreams of glory. Until the real Demon King returns, that is.
— Anos to Avos Dilhevia

In Between Royalty and Mixed Blood (皇族と混血の狭間で Kōzoku to Konketsu no Hazama de?) is the fifth episode of The Misfit of Demon King Academy II anime series.

Synopsis[]

Avos Dilhevia who appeared in Delsgade was actually Misa, who was being controlled by traditions and rumors. After getting the demons in central Dilhade on her side, she declares that she will destroy Anos. Anos is making his way to the Demon King's Castle to rescue Misa. Meanwhile, in the city, the people being controlled by Avos were attacking mixed blood demons, and they had even started making their way to Anos' parents…

Summary[]

Anos pieces everything that has happened so far and deduces how Avos Dilhevia came to be. During the battle of wits against Ziek Ozma, everything he guessed about the Child of God was correct. In addition, Melheis was attacked to delay the broadcast that would expose Avos Dilhevia as a fake that would weaken her existence as a spirit. He also states that Gerad and the Spirit King attacked Misa to awaken her spirit side.

Avos' plan is to steal Venuzdonoa, though it will take some time before she is able to seize it. The Seven Elder Demon Emperors then fire at him, causing the magical projection of Anos to disappear, as his consciousness returns to his original body in Aharthern.

After being informed of Misa's alternate personality, Anos' group prepares to leave the spirit school. However, they are stopped by Enyunien, who wishes to keep them there to protect the Great Spirit Leno's child. They make it to another room but are found by Nigitt, one of Anos' old subordinates under Avos' control. Fortunately, Eges shows up to stop him, allowing Anos' group to leave and find Lena, who convinces the Tithi to help them escape despite the Spirit King's orders.

At Dilhade's doors, they are met by the Demon Lord Elio Ludwell, who recognizes Anos and kneels before him. Anos surmises that those who know him as the real Demon King are less susceptible to Avos' control. However, the seven Demon Emperors and Nigitt are the Demon King's subordinates, and that's why Avos' lore of being the Demon King exerts greater control over them.

The royals are attacking the mixed-bloods inside the city and absorbing their magic power. Ramon Iver finds the disgraced Emilia and beats her up, reminding her of the pain she inflected upon the Anos Fan Union. The royals are then interrupted by Izabella and Gusta, who attempt to save Emilia. Ramon recognizes her as Anos' mom and threatens to dismember her. However, Anos appears and returns the favor by turning the royals into pieces and using magic to keep them alive.

Back home, they devise a plan to sneak into the Demon Castle Delsgade. Since the underground city where the Zeshias live was only added recently, neither Avos nor Melheis knows of its existence, so they create a tunnel there. Before leaving, he has one last talk with Emilia. She asks him to end her misery, but Anos wonders why she didn't ask to become a royal again. Even if she did, she wouldn't be able to live with herself after what she experienced as a mixed-blood demon. The fan union stays to protect Anos' parents, while Anos and his close friends go to the underground city, eventually making it to a teleportation circle leading to the castle's dungeons.

Adaptation Notes[]

Differences from the light novel:

  • The shops of the underground city are run by the Zeshias instead of Owl familiars.
  • In the light novel, Anos and his group rest in the underground city for ten hours until Avos gets tired of waiting. She couldn't maintain her watchful Eye and subjugate Venuzdonoa at the same time, so she focuses all of her efforts on Venuzdonoa. If she chose to keep looking and they didn't show up, Anos would've regained the magic power he expended in Aharthern.

Trivia[]

Revelations about Avos[]

Anos states that he was able to piece together Misa's identity as Avos Dilhevia and the "Child of God" by a combination of various clues over the course of the previous events:

Duel of Intellect[]

  • Guess 6: The Child of God has the Demonic Eyes of Destruction. CORRECT
    • As the Demon King of Tyranny, Avos Dilhevia naturally possesses the Demonic Eyes of Destruction, like Anos does, due to the fact it is a well-known ability that Anos has.
  • Guess 7: The Child of God is not a pure demon, but a half-spirit, half-demon. WRONG
    • Due to her unique nature as a half-spirit, Avos Dilhevia is both a pure-blood demon and a half-demon/half-spirit. Her nature as a pure-blood demon is likely a result of her spirit powers matching her nature to what the royalist demons believe about the Demon King of Tyranny.
  • Guess 8: Anos doesn't know the name of the Child of God. WRONG
    • Anos knows the identity of the Child of God, as her true identity is Misa, who is one of his companions, as well as Avos Dilhevia, whose name he learned off after he reincarnated and later found out was Lay's alias.

Other Clues[]

  • Anos stated that Ziek Ozma's true goal in attacking Melheis Boran was to delay the magic broadcast, which would announce Anos as the true Demon King of Tyranny and not Avos Dilhevia. The reason for that is due to the fact that Misa/Avos is a half-spirit, her existence is tied to the belief that people have in certain concepts. Avos Dilhevia's revelation as a fictional alias would cause Misa to get sick with the Spirit Disease and perish.
  • Misa getting attacked by Gerad Azlema and the Spirit King was a ploy to force her into a dangerous situation so that she'd feel cornered enough to awaken her Avos Dihevia form. However, Misa awakened her true form in response to seeing Lay cornered by the Spirit King, so she attempts to awaken her dormant power to help her lover.
