The Spirit’s Institution (精霊の学舎, Seirei no Manabiya^?) is the third episode of The Misfit of Demon King Academy II anime series.

Synopsis

Anos and the first-year students have made their way to visit Zehenburg for their expedition exam. Anos' motive for this trip is to find his former right-hand man Shin Reglia, who left the message "I will await in the Forest of the Spirits, Aharthern." Amidst their travels, Anos comes across a young informant, Lena who was also making her way to Aharthern. They move forward deeper into their forest, and there they see…

Summary

For the Aharthern Expedition Exam, Anos' party and Nosgalia teleport to the Lishas Meadows, which surrounds the city of Zehenburg. The god explains that the Aharthern forest is a Spirit itself, whose location depends on the current rumors about it. He gives them a clue that when a mysterious fog covers the meadows, mischievous spirits will appear, and making them laugh will get the spirits to guide them.

At Zehenburg, Anos saves a mysterious girl from angry scammers after hearing her talk about Aharthern. Despite having no memories of her past, Lena knows she has to go to Aharthern, so Anos lets her come along. Since she is an information broker, she instantly knows about the fog, which will cover the meadows during an eclipse. Hearing this, Anos uses magic to pull the moon and create one, causing the fog to appear with the Tithi spirits.

Anos' inner group has no luck making them laugh, but the Anos Fan Union succeeds, so the spirits bring them to the forest. When Anos asks about his subordinates from 2,000 years ago, the Tithi take them to the Spirit's School Building. They don't find his subordinates there, but the remaining members of the Four Evil Royals. When the bell rings, Enyunien appears and informs everyone of their enrollment in the spirit school and the rules and graduation requirements. The school is nostalgic to Lena, so Anos uses magic to recover her memories. She doesn't remember much about herself, but a lot about the spirits. Afterward, they go to the Forest of Books to study.

On exam day, Anos easily answers the questions, but sees that Lena and the others are struggling. This causes him to become suspicious of his test, which is essentially confirmed when Gilysiris Dello goads him into checking his friends' tests. Anos does so, and Gilysiris immediately calls the teacher on him, but Anos is not punished because he has already turned in his test.

The Four Evil Royals get 80's scores for the exam results, but Anos' party surpasses them by scoring perfect scores, with Zeshia even scoring 150 points. Gilysiris asks to see their answers and finds many of them incorrect, but Enyunien explains why they could be interpreted differently. He finally realizes that Anos had used Venuzdonoa to destroy logic. Enyunien passes everyone, and they get to take the Spirit's Trial.

Adaptation Notes

Differences from the light novel:

• NousGalia was supposed to inform the class about the Aharthern Expedition Exam while in the classroom instead of teleporting to the Lishas Meadows directly and telling them there.
  • As a result, the part where a royal student accosts Anos for claiming to be the Demon King is omitted. He tells Anos to kill him if he truly is the Demon King, but Anos shuts him down by stating that the student is merely an insignificant demon unworthy of his attention and that Dilhade will soon learn the truth.
  • Also, NousGalia doesn't teleport with Anos' group in the novel. He blesses the entire class with luck to find Aharthern and then teleports to Lishas Meadows alone, where he will wait for the students.
• In the novel, Anos curses the scammer that attacked Lena after saving her so that every gold coin he touches will crumble.
• Eges Code makes it to class in time before the entrance disappears instead of breaking through its magic dimension using Dehiddatem.

Trivia

• It's implied that Anos got the Seven Elder Demon Emperors to approve the field trip to Aharthern. Since NousGalia promised to be a teacher, he could not disagree with the heads of the academy. Anos did so to keep him away from Delsgade while simultaneously keeping track of him as he traveled to Aharthern.
