Did you really think that a song without any choreography would resonate with me?
— Anos to Pope Golroana

Liebarschend, the God of Vestiges (痕跡神リーバルシュネッド Konseki-shin Rībarushuneddo?) is the twenty-second episode of The Misfit of Demon King Academy II anime series.

Synopsis[]

Anos and Pope Golroana clash for the future of their respective countries! Golroana launches a fierce attack with Gospel Magic using the power of the God of Gospel Doldread, who controls sound. Anos counters with the song of the Dilhade Demon King Choir and brings Golroana’s support, the former popes, into the fray. Yet even after the conclusion of the battle, Golroana continues his prayers. Anos offers him peace, but….

Summary[]

Even though the battle has started, Golroana remains in prayer and tells Anos that as the Pope, he will keep praying until peace returns to the Underground World. Anos takes up the challenge and binds him with magic chains. However, Golroana uses possession summon on his Selection God, Doldread, and gains the god of sound's intangibility. He then resurrects the former popes to fight for him and has them fire a sonic attack at Anos. The Demon King questions if the popes truly offered everything to the gods and makes a wager with Golroana about it. Since Anos also promises to fight using only hymn-related attacks, the Pope accepts.

As a result, Anos asks the Anos Fan Union to sing for him and uses Gard Aske to test the effectiveness of love magic against the gods. The two fight using song-based attacks, but the former popes eventually stop fighting, as they are overwhelmed by the Demon King Hymn No. 6: Neighbor. Anos tells Golroana that they have choreography as well and uses his fists to shoot Gard Aske at the resurrected popes, causing them to sing along before disappearing. The song awakened their true feelings, and they started to enjoy themselves, allowing them to finally rest in peace. Anos then keeps shooting Gard Aske to destroy Doldread and defeat Golroana.

Since Anos managed to expose the popes' self-interest, Golroana reveals Liebarschend's location as promised and waits for Anos to take his life and Doldread's order. However, Anos is not interested in this, as he wants to end the Judgement Selection and because Golroana is a good leader. It would be easy to destroy Giordal, but what he wants is true peace between their nations.

Afterward, Anos and Arcana return to the castle in order to continue with their dreams. They are also joined by Eleonore, Zeshia, Sasha, and Misha. In their dream, Arcana finds a burned invitation to Midhaze Castle before noticing a black cat in the window. She follows it and meets a strange man named Ceris, who wants her to deliver a letter to Anos. Her brother will be Demon King one day, and for that to happen, he must get closer to the abyss of magic at the right place. In exchange for doing this, he will teach her magic, which would allow her to defeat the dragons chasing them.

The next day, Anos and his party go to the location Golroana gave them but find nothing there. Arcana explains that due to the order of traces, the underground ruins of Liegarondorol only exist in the past, so Anos uses Rivide to turn back time locally. They enter the ruins and find traces that someone came before them, which turn out to be the Phantom Knights of Gadeciola. Lay and Misa stay to hold them off, so Misa changes into Avos Dilhevia. Deeper inside, a lone Phantom Knight ambushes Anos and tries to self-destruct with Jio Graze, but Anos destroys their source. Because they used Jio Graze, Anos realizes that they are not draconids but demons, most likely from the Mythical Age.

The group eventually reaches a room full of magic power and finds the Netherworld King Eges Code and the Cursed King Kyhilam Jiste, who is presently in his Jiste persona. The two are there to destroy the God of Traces, so the Necron twins keep them occupied while Anos and Arcana dive into the water, where the magic power is emanating from. Because the water is Liebarschend himself while in his sleep, Arcana uses her power to enter his dreams with Anos.

The God of Traces introduces himself and listens to their request, but he warns Arcana that it would be better to forget, as her memories will bring her pain. Because Arcana still wishes to acknowledge her sins in spite of this, Liebarschend pulls out the Books of Traces from their shelves. However, purple lightning suddenly strikes the books and burns their pages. As a result, Anos leaves the dream to deal with the assailant, while Arcana recovers her memories with Liebarschend's help. The unknown figure turns out to be Ceris, who introduces himself as the leader of the Phantom Knights and Anos' own father.

Adaptation Notes[]

Differences from the light novel:

  • Pope Golroana only summons three of his predecessors instead of all thirty-three. In addition, they don't use possession summon with Mirahi Ide Jizm, the Keepers of Sound, nor do they revive multiple times over the course of the battle.
  • The inner workings of Liegarondorol are removed, so Anos and his party navigate through the ruins normally.
  • Anos pulls out Ceris from the water without much resistance. In the novel, Ceris also uses Ygg Neas to resist Anos' pull.
  • The twins are already fused into Aisha by the time Anos pulls Ceris out. In the novel, this happens afterward.
  • Scenes involving Eges and Kyhilam are also removed. In the novel, Eges flings Anos up with his spear and attempts to send him to another dimension, but he is interrupted by Eleonore (as depicted in the episode).
    • Kyhilam's personality awakens and is angry because Misha locked Jiste inside an ice prison.
    • Aisha turns the magic weapons of both Eges and Kyhilam into ice before attempting to transform them as well. However, her Magic Eyes of Creation and Destruction are countered by Ceris' Mauve Magic Eyes, which only Anos has shown so far. This is what leads him to introduce himself as Anos' father.
