I see. Then let's drag Ahide along as a souvenir for the pope.
— Anos

Kingdom of the Dragon God (神竜の国 Shinryū no Kuni?) is the twentieth episode of The Misfit of Demon King Academy II anime series.

Synopsis[]

Arriving in Giorhaze, capital of the Underground World Giordal, Anos follows a wary Erdomaid to a church. There, they obtain a Pledge Jewel which summons dragons. Furthermore, Erdomaid sees Naya's aptitude and makes a pack with her after learning her plan. Anos hears about Ahide's actions from the bishop of the church and decides to catch him before he meets the pope.

Summary[]

While Class 1-2 travels to Giordal, Arcana reassures Sasha that their destination is not hostile, as the dragon invasion was purely Ahide's work. In addition, the rogue cardinal stole a Royal Dragon from Agatha, dragons that go against Giordal's teachings. The Anos Fan Union then hears a humming sound, which Arcana identifies as the song of the Divine Dragon, which has been singing since Giordal's founding. However, no one has seen it except for the Pope and his pact gods.

When they arrive at the capital, Giorhaze, they witness the canopy shaking as if it were to fall. However, Arcana explains that the "Shaking Heavens" poses no danger, as invisible pillars of order sustain the underground sky. Once inside the city, Anos lets the students explore to expand their horizons. While the Anos Fan Union follows someone's singing, Anos and his friends follow Erdomaid, who is up to something because he tries to join the church with Naya. The bishop there holds an initiation ceremony for the group by showing them the Divine Pyre, where he retrieves a Pledge Jewel without burning himself. He then summons a dragon with the ring and explains that only one person from a hundred succeeds on their first try. However, Anos, Misha, Sasha, Eleonore, and Zeshia are all able to take a ring and summon a dragon, shocking the bishop. Naya also summons a tiny dragon, Cannibal, who is named like that by Erdomaid because it shrinks the other dragons and devours them.

Erdomaid then tries to see if Naya can summon a god, startling the bishop since beginners aren't allowed to know the summoning ritual. However, Anos approaches Erdomaid and seriously injures him, triggering the Order of the Heavenly Father. Now in his divine form, Erdomaid creates four Guardian Gods and asks Naya to form a pact with them. She initially doubts herself but succeeds after Erdomaid gives her a little encouragement. Because she was able to form pacts with the guardian gods and summon them all at once with a single pledge jewel, Erdomaid discovers her hidden potential. She has very little magic, so her source is more or less empty, but that extra space allows her to form pacts with more summons. He then asks Naya to form a pact with him, which would allow him to ignore the Zecht stating that he has to be loyal to Anos. Despite knowing this, Anos allows her to decide, so Naya accepts, as she believes she can become useful to Dilhade under his tutelage.

The bishop then bows to the Heavenly Father God, but Erdomaid corrects him, as his faith should be directed to Anos, the Demon King who is above the gods. When Anos asks to meet the Pope, the bishop agrees to arrange it, but something is bothering him. A heretic that rejects the existence of the Almighty Radiance Equis, the former cardinal Ahide, will likely crash the hymn festival tomorrow. He was excommunicated and imprisoned, but the heretics of Gadeciola helped him escape. After hearing this, Anos decides to capture Ahide. At the festival venue, the Anos Fan Union meets Irina, who compliments their singing and tells them about the Sojourner's Psalm, a song that is sung by travelers as an offering.

The class then returns to the landing site, where Anos creates a castle to stay during their visit. When Anos and Arcana try sleeping again to recover their memories, they are interrupted by the twins, as Sasha is worried about Arcana doing something indecent again. As a result, the four sleep together. In the dream, three draconids attempt to kidnap Arcana, who was meant to be an offering to the gods. However, she was saved by Anos, causing the dragons to rampage. The siblings eat after Anos dispatches the invaders, and Arcana asks him to read her the story of "Dora the Liar" again. Dora created fantasies about herself, such as being a nobleman's daughter and a fine magician who cured terminal illnesses, but the villagers eventually found out and avoided her. Despite this, she continued lying until she believed her own lies to be true. Anos tells Arcana not to lie, or she will end up like Dora. Arcana won't do that, as she doesn't want to end up all alone.

When they wake up, Anos notices a contradiction, as the draconids shouldn't have existed 2,000 years ago. Arcana also had the twins dream about their past lives, but they didn't see anything. They attend the festival afterward, and Anos offers a prayer as a sign of respect for their culture, which surprises Sasha. Irina commences the festival, but the singers are nowhere to be found. Suddenly, Ahide's voice informs the audience that the Almighty Radiance Equis was a lie made up by the first pope, and as proof, he will end the Sojourner's Psalm.

Adaptation Notes[]

Differences from the light novel:

  • The scene where Anos warns Bishop Mirano about his summoning flames is omitted. In the novel, the summoning flames that create his crimson dragon are so strong that they burns down Mirano, causing Eleonore to use Ingall on him.
  • In the novel, Anos is the last one to summon his dragon, which destroys the ceiling due to its sheer size. It then spreads its wings to fly away, further destroying the church and causing Anos to rebuild it afterward. Cannibal also attempts to eat it but fails due to its enormous size.
