— Anos to Ziek Ozma |
The Demon King's Duel of Intellect (魔王の知恵比べ Maō no Chie Kurabe?) is the second episode of The Misfit of Demon King Academy II anime series.
Synopsis[]
Anos and his classmates search around Demon King Academy for the "Child of God." While Anos' comrades are fending off the attacks from the demons of two thousand years ago, Anos himself faces the King of Death's Army Officer, Ziek Ozma, in a duel of intellect. In this duel, Anos must speculate who the "Child of God" is and make the correct guess. However, the number of times he can make his guess is limited.
What was Anos' answer, and what is Ziek's motive ― ?!
Summary[]
Ziek challenges Anos to a game of wits, with the loser's magic being sealed for five seconds. He is given 18 tries to find who the Child of God is, but Ziek can lie once to confuse him. Anos accepts and willingly drops it to nine to make it "fair" for Ziek. He plays the game, but it's full of unescapable contradictions. He concludes that Ziek has fake memories, but it's too late, and Ziek summons his henchmen. Anos opts to forfeit, allowing Ziek to kill Melheis. However, even without his magic, Anos defeats the henchmen. Melheis is also revealed to be alive, as Anos used the spell Eleonore to create a pseudo-source and swap it with Melheis's source before the game began. Ziek attempts suicide, but Anos reincarnates him as his owl familiar to answer his questions.
Elsewhere, Lay cuts the tip of Gerad's sword before it can stab Misa. When questioned about his motives, Gerad reveals that Misa is the child of the Great Spirit Leno and thus has the power to control all spirits. He summons the Magic Shield Gennias, and when Lay strikes him from behind, twice the pain is inflicted back on him. He attempts to destroy the shield, but after breaking one of the shield's four gems, his source is destroyed as well. However, unbeknownst to Gerad, Lay is the reincarnated Hero Kanon. His seven sources allow him to destroy the shield without dying. Lay stabs Gerad, but commits suicide and reincarnates before answering how he got Misa's father's sword.
At Elio's castle, Eleonore and Zeshia confront Zabro Gaze, who has turned their classmates from the Hero Academy into gools. He tells Eleonore that the gods played a part in her creation, as they wanted to create a vessel strong enough to carry their power, which resulted in Zeshia's birth. The girls flee and find the big monument turning people into gools, but Zabro finds them and uses Jino Gleanus to drain their magic power. However, Eleonore uses Aske and her spell form to create pseudo-clones that supply her with magic power. She then fires a powerful blast that defeats Zabro and the monument. She heals everyone afterward.
Lastly, Rinka tells Misha that she was brought forth by the will of a god, who had modified the spell that separated her and Sasha into two, creating a personality that should have never existed. And she will dispose of her before she awakens. Rinka uses her invisible sword to strike Sasha at a distance, but her Phoenix Robe heals the wound. Sasha shoots four Jio Graze, but Rinka cuts through them and pushes Sasha back, accidentally impaling herself with the invisible blades that Rinka set up prior. Misha attempts to bind Rinka, but she breaks free and pierces Misha with her sword. However, Misha picks herself back up and summons a functional copy of Delsgade, the body of a god. Misha's eyes glow as she transmutes Rinka into a snowflake.

Adaptation Notes[]
Differences from the light novel:
- In the novel, Gerad approaches Misa when she's with Anos and everyone in the group. It was Anos who suggested that Lay accompany them, as he didn't fully trust Gerad.
- In the anime, the Duel of Intellect is done using cards to help visualize the competition.
- In the novel, Ziek was disrupting Anos attempt to revive Melheis by cutting his Rivide spell with a demon sword. In the anime, this is omitted.
- In the anime, Anos reduces the number of questions and guesses he is allowed in order to give himself a handicap to make the Duel of Intellect more fair to Ziek. In the novel, he did so that Ziek would give up his demon sword in case he would attempt to cut the Rivide spell at the cost of his life.
- In the novel, Melheis also talks about Erdomaid's visit to Delsgade to enlist as a teacher, not just about the state of the post-war Azeshion and the leader of the Unitarians.
