— Anos to Arcana |
Almighty Demon King (全能なる魔王 Zen'nōnaru Maō?) is the eighteenth episode of The Misfit of Demon King Academy II anime series.
Synopsis[]
Ahide announces that Midhaze will be destroyed. However, the oracle's will contradicts Arcana's true intentions. Shin also joins in the fray as the two finally face off! Ahide possesses Arcana and thrusts the judgement of the Sword of the Almighty, Leviangilma, upon Anos. Arcana states that to destroy Ahide, he must be slashed three times with the Divine Sword. But the sword obliterates the source of anyone who draws the sword from its sheath….
Summary[]
Even though Anos disproves his oracles, Ahide doesn't drop his act. He reveals that Anos will soon be punished by Arcana, who is outside Midhaze. The Cardinal then commands Arcana to summon Artieltnoah, the Moon of Creation, and freeze everyone in the capital. The Demon King asks her if she truly wishes for destruction, but she replies that her body is for saving people. As a result, Anos calls for Shin, who slashes the Moon of Creation away and swiftly defeats the goddess, causing her to teleport away with Gneodoros still embedded in her torso.
When Ahid summons Arcana, she returns with both Gneodoros and Evansmana, which she retrieved from the Royal Dragon. Having obtained the necessary materials, he teleports outside the institute and uses Azept to summon Arcana into himself, granting him her powers and a divine body. Arcana's spirit then fuses both magic swords with Artieltnoah to create Leviangilma, the Sword of the Almighty. She explains that while this sword exists, Ahide is invulnerable to destruction, and the only way to bypass this is to unsheathe Leviangilma and slash him three times. However, should the sword be drawn, the wielder's source will be destroyed across all of time. Arcana then reiterates the question she asked Anos before— does the Almighty exist in this world?
Anos attempts to crush Ahide's source and imprison him in a dream, but neither works. Feeling unstoppable, Ahide attempts to sacrifice the draconids from Gaelahesta despite their non-aggression pact. This is met with some resistance from Arcana, but Ahide confesses his sins and pressures her into accepting his confession. When Anos grabs the sword and is about to give his answer, Ahide flies towards him and rips out his heart. However, the heart is revealed to be an illusion, and what Ahide really pulled out was Leviangilma. He starts to panic and vomit due to his impending death, but Arcana tells him that this is another illusion.
Ahide regains his composure and turns his hands into blades to attack Anos, but the Demon King is ready to give Arcana his answer. He uses Veneziara, a spell that turns all possibilities into reality, allowing him to enter a state where he both draws the divine sword and doesn't. This allows him to draw the sword without drawing it and cut all of Ahide's limbs, who questions the absurdity of Anos' logic. Afterward, Anos imprisons Ahide in a dream where he is killed endlessly unless he renounces his faith. Since they have been defeated, Arcana allows Anos to kill her, but he refuses.
When Anos asks Arcana why she asked him about the Almighty, she tells him that she has long forgotten her divine name. Since gods have no souls, she suspects that in exchange for her memories, she received a gentle heart. She tells him about the time a grieving father asked her to get revenge on a Selected One who had just won the Judgement Selection, as he had killed the man's daughter, a fellow Selected One. Rather than killing him, Arcana recreated an identical copy of the daughter, and he was happy for a while. However, the winner of the Selection eventually revealed to the man that his daughter was a fake, causing him to commit suicide. Had Arcana granted the man his revenge, then perhaps he would've lived. She came to the realization that saving one person meant dooming another, and thus not everyone can be saved, as gods are not almighty. However, Anos was able to overturn her answer, becoming worthy of becoming a divine proxy in her eyes.
Ahide is soon released from the dream, and he attempts to leave with Arcana, but the goddess tells him that she had made a mistake in choosing him and nulls their pact. Having gone insane, Ahide believes he is still trapped in Anos' spell and reveals that he never had faith in the gods, which is how he was able to fulfill the dream's conditions. He then teleports away to denounce their gods to the Pope and his followers, as he had done in the dream, unaware he was back in real life.
Anos tells Arcana that he won't become the god she seeks, but she can become that kind-hearted god who will save everyone. She asks who will forgive a god who has made a mistake, but Anos replies that he will. If she made a mistake, then she should make amends, as Emilia and the others had done during the fight against the dragons. As atonement, Arcana will end the Judgement Selection, a sacrificial ritual created by the gods for their own convenience. As a result, Anos asks Arcana to become his Selection God so they can put an end to it together.
At the Hero Academy, Anos is about to reward Emilia for her accomplishments when the hero trio appears. They are very grateful to Emilia and bow to ask her not to leave. Emilia sympathizes with them and kneels before Anos to turn down his offer, as she wants to continue teaching at the Hero Academy. Zamira then appears and threatens to execute them for bowing down to the leader of an enemy nation, which is possible because he had become king with the death of the royal family. However, his own soldiers arrest him instead, as Arcana had broadcasted Ahide's dealings with Zamira. With the post of headmaster vacant, Anos appoints Emilia as the Hero Academy's new headmaster.
With the exchange over, Anos returns to being Anoshu Polticoal and says goodbye to Emilia one last time. Since Selection Gods cannot return to the heavenly realm during the Selection, Anoshu brings Arcana home. Izabella is happy that Anos is a kid again, while Gusta is surprised he brought yet another girl home. A dream is then shown, where a little girl resembling Arcana is running away from a dragon. She is then saved by a boy who resembles Anos, whom she calls brother.

Adaptation Notes[]
Differences from the light novel:
- Scenes from the light novel are omitted:
- Prior to the Shin vs. Arcana fight, Ahide sends a horde of dragons toward Dilhade. However, they are exterminated by the Demon King Army led by Nigitt, Luche, and Devidra, as the recently-reformed Resistance informed Anos of Ahide's plan, who thought the resistance was still against Anos.
- During the Shin vs. Arcana fight, Ahide tells his one thousand followers to sacrifice themselves in order to empower the Moon of Creation with their deaths. This allows Arcana to escape Gneodoros' third hidden art, which was exponentially cutting her source in half.
Trivia[]
- The Looting Sword's seventh hidden art, Stunning Night, can slash apart natural magic circles that affect time and weather. Because of this, Shin was able to slice the night caused by Arcana's Moon of Creation.
