You say that I was selected, but I've never even met a Selection God.
— Anos to Ahide

Institute of the Gods (神代の学府 Kamishiro no Gakufu?) is the fifteenth episode of The Misfit of Demon King Academy II anime series.

Synopsis[]

Erdomaid trains the students in methods of dragon slaying. He does so in a dangerous battle with an actual dragon summoned. Anos and his friends infiltrate the dragon's den and arrive in the Underground World, where the dragonfolk called Draconids live. Ahide, who attacked the previous evening, guides them to the Institute of the Gods, Everastanzetta. There, Anos is told how he has already been involved in the "Judgement Selection."

Summary[]

For the dragon-slaying training, Erdomaid has the students run to a pine tree in the distance without using magic. Ledriano, Heine, and Laos think it's easy, but they are suddenly attacked by a dragon and die. Erdomaid revives them with his Hourglasses and reveals they will practice evading actual dragons. If they die, they must return and turn over the hourglass again so they don't die permanently. The class watches in shock as the trio is mercilessly killed. Shin explains that underground dragons hunt by sensing vibration, so one can evade them by running silently.

More dragons appear and attempt to attack Anoshu, but he uses compulsion magic to make them lie down. He then makes one of them show him its nest, as Arcana mentioned that Everastanzetta was in the Underground World. Misha and Sasha follow him while he turns back into Anos, and the city of Gaelahesta eventually appears before them, which didn't exist two thousand years ago. Anos notices that the residents' magic power is similar to those of humans and demons, and that Ahide is secretly following them. Ahide explains that he's not there to fight, as fighting is forbidden in the city, but not in Everastanzetta.

Once at the Institute of the Gods, Ahide explains that the Judgement Selection is a ritual to select a divine agent to take over the role of the lost god. Arcana creates a Selection Pledge Jewel so Anos can make a pact with his god, but he says he has never met a Selection God before. Ahide clarifies that gods only become Selection Gods after choosing someone and that even though gods can be destroyed during the trial, their orders are never lost because they are stored in the selection pledge jewels. Anos finds it problematic for an agent to be born, as he was the one who removed the order of destruction.

Anos tries to ask about the underground world's origins, but since Ahide is not obliged to answer him about anything other than the selection, he looks elsewhere. However, Ahide reminds him that fighting is allowed in the institute. Anos eventually finds a room filled with ancient stone tablets and deciphers them, thus learning that the underground world was created two thousand years ago and that its residents are called draconids. When a dragon consumes a large amount of sources, it produces a powerful offspring known as the "Child of Dragons", the ancestors to the current draconids. He also learns that the underground countries of Giordal, Agatha, and Gadeciola are at war. Misha then notices the ancient script of the gods, which even Anos couldn't see. He deciphers them and discovers that the underground world was created by order of a god.

The group is then greeted by Gazel Apt Ageila, another one of the Selected Eight, who begins the holy battle. He attempts to summon his god, but Anos kills him before that could happen. However, because his selection pledge jewel wasn't destroyed, Nutra du Hiana appears and revives Gazel. Since the Keeper of Restoration regenerates all the damage Anos deals, he casts Gagalia on her to further boost her regeneration and cause her to overload. Gazel still has pacts with multiple gods, so he summons God of Light into himself and the God of Piercing into his weapon. Despite moving at light speed, Anos is able to block Gazel's divine spear. The Demon King then uses his Mauve Magic Eyes and destroys Gazel's gods.

Arcana appears afterward and cuts off Gazel's hand to steal the orders of the destroyed gods in his ring, absorbing them into herself. Ahide claims that it is the gods' will, but Gazel doesn't believe him, so Ahide excommunicates him for doubting the gods. A regretful Gazel commits suicide to atone, which is temporarily stopped by the kind Arcana. However, Ahide finishes the job and then asks Arcana for forgiveness. He leaves afterward, as he can't fight Anos yet. Using this time, Arcana uses Syrica to reincarnate Gazel. When Anos asks her why she chose Ahide, she replies that it's because he was completely hopeless.

When Anos and the twins return, Ramon informs them that Xerceas was approached by the man with the ring again. Anos shows him his selection pledge jewel, and Ramon recognizes it. Ramon also mentions that Xerceas had seen the man's familiar at Gairadite's palace before, alerting the group that one of the Selected Eight was in a human palace.
