— Anos to Eleonore |
Goddess of Selection (選定の神 Sentei no Kami?) is the fourteenth episode of The Misfit of Demon King Academy II anime series.
Synopsis[]
To investigate the dragon sighted in Azeshion, Anos and his friends visit the Hero Academy in the name of participating in an exchange program. Emilia teaches at the Hero Academy, but despite her efforts, Ledriano and the other students of the Hero Academy are rather unenthusiastic about the exchange. Furthermore, Zamira, the headmaster of the Hero Academy, issues a decree to slay the dragon. Yet, as Emilia resists his unreasonable order, the Hero Academy students begin to lose interest….
Summary[]
An owl arrives in Delsgade with a message from Igareth Ijeiska. A dragon has been sighted, and several people have gone missing. The authorities don't know how to deal with it, but they won't ask Dilhade for help either. As a result, Anos decides to request another educational exchange between the Demon King Academy and the Hero Academy.
A week later, Erdomaid teleports to Gairadite with the rest of the students. He asks Naya, whom he nicknamed "Bookworm" due to always staying after class to study, how it feels to cast successfully Gatom, but she underplays her own achievement. She thanks him for his assistance, as she is the most inept magic user in the class, but Erdomaid reassures her that compared to the Demon King, they are all equally inept. However, since she is not arrogant, she has the greatest potential to grow.
At the Hero Academy, Emilia tries to reign in the students, but they ignore her since she hasn't been there for long. As a result, Erdomaid promises to cancel the exchange if the humans can beat Anoshu at any game of their choosing. Heine picks "highest roll wins" and gives Anosh a loaded dice that will always roll a one. However, Anoshu manages to roll a 6, causing the hero to begrudgingly accept his loss. Suddenly, a mysterious girl that only Anoshu can see appears. She tells him that if the Almighty creates a sword that no one can pull, then the Almighty can't pull it either. But if they are unable to pull it, then they are not Almighty. So, is there no Almighty in this world? When he finds the answer, he must tell her.
Afterward, Headmaster Zamira appears and orders the students to subjugate a dragon, much to their dismay. He also invites Lay to a grand ceremony as Hero Kanon's reincarnation, but Lay declines because Anoshu invites him to play on the lake after class. Zamira asks why not now since he won't learn anything in class with the fake heroes there, offending Ledriano, who reminds him it was the academy who deemed them as such. Zamira calls them ingrates, as he is giving them a chance to redeem themselves by defeating the dragon, but all this talk about heroes displeases Emilia, who believes they shouldn't risk their lives just for some title. Zamira gets angry and runs over to Emilia to make her apologize, but Ledriano makes him trip and then scares him off with Laos and Heine. Emilia tells them what they did was unnecessary, as they have made things worse for her, so the trio storms off like the "troublemakers" she believes them to be.
Anoshu and the others later visit a restaurant, but he sees Emilia struggling to open canned food, so he helps her. Since Anoshu is a royal, she tells him that she used to be a royal as well, but an evil magician turned her into a hybrid. She believed everyone looked down on her for being a hybrid, but coming to Gairadite made her realize that the one who looked down on her was herself. Eventually, Anoshu's group plays at the lake. He sits on a throne made of sand with Eleonore and Zeshia, who pretends to be the Demon King. Lay and Shin have a swimming competition for Misa's affection, while Misa and the twins play with a volleyball.
When the group heads back to their dorms, Anoshu notices someone following them, so he separates from them. The stranger introduces himself as Ahide Alobo Agatze, a cardinal from Jiordal and one of the Selected Eight. He summons his Selection God, Arcana, who is the mysterious girl from earlier. He asks Anos to do the same, but the Demon King has no idea what he's talking about, so Arcana summons the Moon of Creation and freezes him. However, Anos breaks free and overwhelms Arcana, causing her to tell Ahide to flee. When he asks what the Judgement Selection is, she explains that it is a sacred ritual in which eight chosen mortals are judged to see if they are worthy of becoming a god. Of the eight Selection Gods, one of them chose him. He can have a more in-depth explanation in Everastanzetta, which is located in the Underground World. Since Anos has no intention to continue fighting, Arcana leaves.

Adaptation Notes[]
Differences from the light novel:
- In the novel, Erdomaid teaches the class about Gatom before telling Naya to demonstrate. She doubts whether or not she can actually do it, but Erdomaid's encouragement causes her to try and succeed. Because she has the worst magic aptitude in the class, this encourages the other students to try so they don't lose to her. In the anime, she teleports last and gets the encouragement afterward.
- In the novel, the scene with Zeshia wanting to sit together with Anos and Eleonore happens in the throne room, and immediately afterward, Igareth's falcon appears to bring the news of a dragon sighting. In the anime, this scene is pushed later in the story and combined with the "playing at the lake" scene.
- Just before playing at the lake, Anos notices Ahide staring at him, who is disguised as Jerga-Kanon student. When Anos asks him about his ring, which uses dragon skin, Ahide replies that it's from his homeland and leaves.
