The Test of Knowledge (知恵比べ, Chie Kurabe^?) is a battle of wits wagered between Anos Voldigoad and Zeke Ozma. Knowing that he's no match for the Demon King in terms of strength, Zeke opts for a contest where they must use their intellect instead.

History

After defeating Nosgalia, who proclaimed that the Child of God that would destroy Anos was at the Demon King Academy, Anos made his way to the Union Tower, where Zeke awaited him, as he had killed Melheis Boran and began to disrupt Anos' attempt to resurrect him. Zeke proclaimed that one of Anos' followers was the Child of God, as he wagered the information about them and offered to test their wits against each other in a game.

Rules

The numbers in parentheses refer to changes in the rules.

1. Anos must guess what Zeke is hiding.
   • In the light novel, he can ask 16 (8) questions to determine the topic Zeke is lying about and make 8 (3) guesses.
   • In the anime, he has 18 (9) guesses to find out the Child of God's identity.
2. Zeke must confirm if he's right, but he can lie with certain limitations.
   • In the light novel, if Zeke chooses to lie about a certain topic, he must continue to lie about it and cannot tell the truth at all.
   • In the anime, Zeke can only lie once for one of Anos' questions.

Additional Rules

Rules that should go without saying:

1. Anos cannot ask the same question twice.
2. The two cannot attack each other during the match.
3. If Anos forfeits, he loses.

• First Question: What do you (Zeke) know about the Child of God?
  • Answer: The Child of God has three possible candidates: Misa, Zeshia, and Misha & Sasha Necron. Each of them has a specific origin that could make them the Child of God. 1) Misa Iliorogue was born fifteen years ago, as the biological child of the Great Spirit Reno and Shin Reglia. This was exactly as the Heavenly Father had intended. Her spirit lore is the order to destroy the Demon King, which was spread not through the Human Realm or Demon Realm, but through the Divine Realm. 2) Eleonore Bianca, and by extension Zeshia Bianca, were born due to a deal made between Nosgalia and Jerga. 3) During the Magical Age, the gods changed the magic circle of Ivis Necron's spell to give birth to Misha Necron. This information came from Nosgalia, who promised to tell the truth.
• Guess: Zeke is lying about the Child of God. WRONG
  • Although he's not lying about the Child of God, Zeke can still hide information without lying about it.
• Second Question: Is there only one Child of God?
  • Answer: Yes.
  • Anos asks a closed-ended question because there's less room for overlap with other topics. Since Zeke is not lying about the Child of God, the only other topic he can lie about is the "number of people." This confirms the other two of his subordinates are not the Child of God.
• Third Question: Are Misha and Sasha the same age?
  • Answer: Yes, since they were born on the same day.
  • Anos picks this question because Zeke could be lying about "Anos' subordinates." If this were the case, he would be unable to tell the truth.
• Fourth Question: Has Nosgalia assimilated with Eldmed?
  • Answer: Yes.
  • As Zeke's information comes from Nosgalia, it's possible he's lying about the Heavenly Father. But because Nosgalia is indeed assimilated with Eldmed, Zeke is not lying about him.
• Fifth Question: Who is the Child of God??
  • Answer: There are three candidates for the role of Child of God: Misa Iliorogue, Zeshia Bianca, and Misha and Sasha Necron. In the Necron sisters' case, the possibility lies with their fused form.
  • Since he's not lying about the Child of God, he could still be lying about "people's true identities."
  • It's also possible for Zeke to lie about something specific within the answer. He can't lie about the Child of God or Anos' subordinates, but if he were to lie about "children of the Great Spirit Reno," that would also extend to Misa as well.
• Sixth Question: Who is the Demon King of Tyranny?
  • Answer: Eldmed.
  • Anos asks this to confirm his previous suspicions about people's identities.
• Guess: Zeke is lying about people's identities. WRONG
  • Since he is not lying about people's true identities, his lie relates to the Demon King of Tyranny, to Anos.

The game then ends abruptly because Zeke's allies appear and attempt to kill Melheis.

  • If Ziek lied and Misa is not the Child of God, then none of his subordinates would be the Child of God. So there would be two lies, which is not possible.
  • If he lied for guesses 2, 3, or 4, then Misha, Sasha, or Zeshia would be the Child of God. So there would be two "Children of God", which would violate the order of the gods.

To prove the answer is not Misa, Anos makes the following guess:

• Guess 6: The Child of God has the Demon Eyes of Destruction. CORRECT

Thus the lie must be between either guess five or six. He also thinks of the fused form of Misha and Sasha, who also has the eyes.

• Guess 7: The Child of God is not a pure demon, but a half-spirit, half-demon. WRONG

Thus Misa is not the Child of God, and Anos is left with the unnamed fusion of Misha and Sasha.

• Guess 8: Anos doesn't know the name of the Child of God. WRONG

The clues point to the unnamed fusion, but Anos should know the name of the Child of God, so there's a contradiction. Because of this, Anos recognizes the game is rigged.

Results

Because the rules only apply to them, Zeke sends his henchmen to kill Melheis Boran while Anos was tied down by Zecht. The Conflagration King's staff officer covers his allies with magic wards, which Anos cannot destroy since it would be the same as attacking Zeke himself. Due to this, Anos voluntarily forfeits, causing his magic to be sealed for five seconds. However, the Demon King easily defeats the assailants using nothing more than his physical prowess. Zeke attempts to escape by committing suicide and reincarnating, but Anos alters his magic circle to reincarnate Zeke into his own owl familiar.

Trivia

• In the anime, Anos stated that it would be impossible for more then one person to be the Child of God, as that would violate the order of the gods. However, in the novel, Anos considers the possibility that there could be more then one Child of God and ask Zeke about it.
