— Sylvia to Lay in "The Female Dragon Knight Is against Romance" |
Sylvia Arbitias (シルヴィア・アービシャス Shiruvuia Ābishasu?) is the deputy commander of the Knights of Agatha.
Appearance[]
Sylvia has long red hair and an elegant face.[1] She wears the red armor of the Knights of Agatha.
Personality[]
Sylvia is a proud knight who is willing to give her life for Agatha. She is also a rather headstrong individual who can turn cruel at the mention of love, a thing she absolutely despised until she fell for Anos. To her, love was a trivial thing that had no place in battle, and only made one weak.[2] Her complex stems from the fact that she was too strong to land a man,[3] and because of her father's short lifespan, which left him unable to teach her anything but a single-minded focus for the sword.[4]
History[]
Sylvia is a powerful Dragonborn who was conceived by the Royal Dragon. Since she had no parents, Ricardo Arbitias was appointed as her guardian and tasked with raising her to be a Dragon Knight by orders of the Sword Emperor Diedrich Kreizen Agatha. This was because the dragonborns were heroes of prophecy who would save the nation during the doomsday, so Sylvia's life was already chosen for her. As a child, she complained a lot due to Ricardo's strict parenting and didn't want to become a hero.[5]
However, Sylvia changed after growing up and became devoted to Agatha. She also became the deputy commander of the Knights of Agatha, the direct subordinates of the Sword Emperor. Unfortunately, she would fall ill because of draconic deficiency, a condition in which magic leaked out of her body until she died. The reason for this is that a magic organ unique to Dragonborn had grown too powerful for her body to handle, so it was expelling magic as a result.[1]
Not long after her symptoms began to show, Sylvia encountered the Fiend of Purple Lightning, but she was no match for him.[6] She eventually became bedridden and was given bangles that would prevent magic from escaping her source, though they couldn't fully contain it either.[1]
Synopsis[]
Agatha Prophecy Arc[]
After meeting Ricardo and listening to his story, Anos offers to treat Sylvia despite having no prior knowledge of her illness. He correctly deduces her condition and then operates on her source to remove the afflicted part, which is successful as Sylvia falls unconscious to recuperate. She wakes up hours later and attends the banquet hosted by King Diedrich with her father. However, she sees Lay and Misa flirting, and mocks their relationship. Because she also insults Misa, Lay challenges her to a drinking competition to make her take back her words. Sylvia is pretty confident about her alcohol tolerance, but it isn't enough to compete against Lay's seven sources, which can constantly revive him, so she eventually collapses and loses.
The next morning, the prophecy trial is held to see if the Demon King is powerful enough to overturn Agatha's prophecies. Lay and Misa are chosen to compete against Nate and Sylvia in Naphta's restricted world, where their chances of victory would be severely limited. When the battle starts, she immediately rushes toward Misa and sends her crashing into a wall. However, the girl transforms into Avos Dilhevia and returns the favor. Because Nate and Sylvia are formidable opponents, the couple decides to use love magic.
Sylvia attacks them with her superior speed, but their Lovul Aske is capable of disrupting reason, allowing them to evade her by simply walking. The spell also allows Misa to cross swords with Sylvia despite her poor stance. Nate finally makes his move after Sylvia exhausts their magic and swings down his Geddeolver at full strength. However, the couple's magic is far from gone, and they use Lovul Triazetta to absorb their attacks, causing an explosion that knocks the Dragon Knights out and wins.
Even though it's Lay and Misa's victory, this was an outcome that Naptha had already foreseen, so it isn't proof that Anos can change the future. Nate and Sylvia recover soon afterward and set out with the Knights of Agatha, as the Phantom Knights attacked the underground jail to rescue the treacherous Ahid.
Abilities[]
- Immense Magic Power: Being a dragonborn, Sylvia was born with an immense amount of magic power that allows her to compete with powerful opponents such as Lay Grandsley or Misa Reglia. Her birthright also allows her to tap into the more powerful Dragon Arts.
- Immense Physical Strength: As a dragonborn, she possesses a great degree of physical strength, as she easily shook off her subordinates when they tried subduing her.[3]
- Immense Speed: By using Gaddez to summon her draconic aura, Sylvia gains four dragon wings that tremendously increase her speed past what's possible for a mortal, like a divine wind. She can also put more magic into her dragon art to increase the number of wings to eight, increasing her speed even further.[7]
