The Royalists (皇族一派 Kōzoku-ha?) were a faction of demons who pushed for royal supremacy and demanded privileges for pure-blooded demons.[1]

Overview[]

The movement consisted of royal pureblood demons who directly descended from the Seven Demon Elders, the creations of the Demon King of Tyranny. Due to misunderstanding the founder's words that he would reincarnate as a pureblood demon, they believed themselves to be superior to commoner or mixed-blood demons. The Royalists used this as evidence of their own superiority and made themselves the ruling class of Dilhade. They maintained that blood purity, not power or ability, was the main measure of judging a demon's worth and prided themselves on this.

The Royalists revered the Demon King of Tyranny Avos Dilhevia. They placed his words above all else and obeyed his orders without question, as demonstrated when "Avos Dilhevia" told his followers not to seek revenge against humans for his death and await his reincarnation, despite their own anger and eagerness to seek retaliation. Others like Leorg Indu and Revest Aynie became furious when a mixed-blood claimed to be the founder, as they considered it inconceivable and an insult to the Demon King.

To prevent the Royalists from going too far, the Seven Demon Elders assumed leadership of the group.[2] Without them, there would be more extremists like Emilia Ludwell, who will abuse and kill the mixed-blood demons at any perceived offense. As a result, a superficial peaceful balance was struck between the Royalists and the Unitarians, a movement of mixed-bloods who sought equality amongst all demons.

History[]

After the Great War ended two thousand years ago, Hero Kanon approached the Seven Demon Elders to inform them of humanity's plot to destroy their master, the Demon King Anos. The Demon Elders supported Kanon's proposal to create a fictional Demon King for Azesion to take revenge on, and even let him fuse his extra sources with theirs so he could act with their authority. Since he had also used Evansmana to erase Anos' name from history, Kanon became the de-facto ruler of Dilhade and created the identity of Avos Dilhevia.[3] Before leaving to reincarnate, he told the demons that the Demon King would reincarnate as a pureblood demon. However, the royals misunderstood this and restructured demon society to value blood purity over ability, as they awaited the reincarnation of Avos Dilhevia.[2]

Synopsis[]

Demon King Academy[]

Upon defeating Zepes Indu, Anos is confronted by his older brother Leorg, who immediately kills Zepes for bringing shame to the bloodline. He explains that power defines demon royalty, so Zepes was weak for losing to a mere mixed-blood. The royals believe themselves to be powerful due to solely inheriting the Founder's blood, unlike the weak mixed-bloods who just happened to inherit a single drop. Anos mocks this mindset, and Leorg asks if he's making light of the Founder, to which Anos explains that he is the Founder. This angers Leorg, who decides to execute Anos.

As part of their royal privilege, demon royals are allowed to choose their opponents for the practical exam and receive outside help, so Leorg and eighty others surround Anos to kill him. However, due to their overwhelming difference in strength, Anos causes their magic to run out of control and explode. Only Leorg remains standing, so he uses magic that is only taught to demon royalty— origin magic. However, Anos is unaffected, as he developed it and knows its weakness. Ultimately, he defeats Leorg and passes the practical exam.

Demon Sword Tournament Arc[]

In an effort to destroy the Unitarians' rising hero, the radical Royalists arranged Anos' participation in the Demon Sword Tournament so he would be defeated by a royalist, thus finally discrediting his belief that mixed-bloods are no different from purebloods. However, this backfired, as Anos managed to easily best and humiliate their champion, Kurt Ludwell, with an ordinary sword. As a backup plan, the Royalists coerced Lay Grandsley, a newfound friend of Anos, into serving them in exchange for his mother's treatment. Ultimately, this plan also failed, as Anos defeated Lay and became the tournament's champion.

Hero Academy Arc[]

After Azesion declared war on Dilhade, the Royalists and the Demon Lords heeded the call of the Demon King "Avos Dilhevia" and gathered the Demon King Army. It is eventually discovered that Lay was Hero Kanon's reincarnation, who became the fake Demon King in order to sacrifice himself for Anos. When Anos found out, he took back the identity of "Avos Dilhevia" and tricked Lay into slaying him. As Anos was dying, he told his descendants not to seek revenge, as he would be coming back in the future. Elio Ludwell, the Demon Lord of Midhaze, honored the wishes of his Demon King and ordered his men to retreat.

Anos eventually resurrects, and he works with Lay to finally defeat Jerga, the mastermind behind the war. Upon returning to Dilhade, Elio and the entire army kneel before him. The Demon Lord is not a fool, as he witnessed Anos summon Delsgade and defeat an inconceivable opponent. He asks to be punished for his negligence, but Anos easily forgives him and settles with Elio serving him for the rest of his life as redemption.

Great Spirit Arc[]

Upon the end of the minor conflict with Azesion, the Demon King Academy students and faculties were the first to be informed of the truth of "Avos Dilhevia" and the true identity of the Demon King. The Royalists weren't pleased over the revelation of Anos Voldigoad being their true founding ancestor, but Anos made it clear that he didn't care whether they acknowledged him or not as he being their Demon King is simply a fact, and that he is looking forward to seeing each and every one of his descendants both pure and mixed-blooded demons reach their true potential through struggle and growth in the new egalitarian Dilhade.

After the Great Spirit Avos Dilhevia awakened, her spirit powers allowed her to exert influence over anything associated with the Demon King of Tyranny. However, since the royalists were from the Magical Age and thus weren't included in the legends of the Demon King, Avos used her newly-developed spell, Demera, to gain control over them. The royalists became more radical and started attacking mixed-bloods to drain their magic power, just as Avos Dilhevia commanded them to.

Afterward, Avos set about to reshape Dilhade into a nation that practices royal supremacy as the royalist had hoped it would happen, since their beliefs shaped the Great Spirit's own personality. Only a select few were immune to her brainwashing spell, for different reasons. Some have already come to believe Anos was their true Demon King while others abhorred her cruelty and began doubting Avos Dilhevia's authenticity, as the true Demon King possessed great strength to protect the weak.

Upon the Demon King Reordination Ceremony, Anos abolished the segregation of demons with the support of several high officials and the Seven Demon Elders, a new order of egalitarianism was established between the royal and the mixed-blood demons. As a result, there are no longer distinctions between the two. The royalists were reluctantly supportive of the decision as they used the excuse of being under Avos' control to try to excuse their heinous actions during her short term reign of terror as being done under her influence.

Selection Trial Arc[]

With Anos' abolishment of the previous class system, the royal demons lost the privileges that they previously possessed, as officially the Royalists were disbanded by Anos' decree. Though the former members who still adhered to their ideology, harbored resentment towards Anos for taking away their privileges. However, due to the fact that the Seven Demon Elders and various other high-level executives sided with Anos, they lacked the political power and influence to oppose him, let alone try to fight him directly in open warfare. Due to this, a group of royal demons covertly joined forces to form a secret royalist resistance group. The group was lead by Zerceus Angart, who believe that the true Demon King died 2,000 years ago and never reincarnated, as the Unitarians fabricated the existence of Anos Voldigoad as the Demon King in order to increase their influence.

After the Demon King's punishment, the group became committed in tracking down all the remaining royalist supremacist rebels and convert them into accepting then embracing the new egalitarian Dilhade. Their original goal would be used as a façade, to lure all the misguided pureblooded demons to their side and begin reforming them for the better. Slowly undoing the discriminatory society that has corrupted Dilhade for generations.

Trivia[]

  • While most royalists joined the faction due to the innate privileges that came from it and look down on mixed-blood demons, some like Revest Aynie only joined due to their worship of the Demon King and do not harbor any malice towards their hybrid kinsmen.
    • After the Demon King Reordination Ceremony, the true worshippers left the unjust prejudicial group as they redirected their reverence towards the true Demon King, Anos Voldigoad.
  • According to Anos, the royalist belief that royal pure-blood demons are inherently superior in power to mixed-blood demons is flawed as it only takes one drop of Demon King blood to obtain power.[4]

Notes[]

  1. The Seven Demon Elders only assumed the leadership positions as Royalists in order to prevent the group from going too far.
