The Pledge Jewel (盟珠 Meishu?) is a special jewel ring that allows the user to summon dragons or gods.
Appearance[]
The Pledge Jewel takes the form of a ring made of dragon materials and is embedded with a clear crystal.
History[]
According to legends, the Jiordan goddess Genedonov fought in the very first Selection Trial in order to bless the underground world. As a result of her victory, pledge jewels were introduced to the Underground World, enabling the draconids to summon gods so they may bless them with the necessary resources to survive the harsh lifestyle of the underground depths, where food was scarce and sunlight nonexistent.[1][2]
Jiordal became a powerful nation with vassal states and flourished for a long time. However, Genedonov betrayed Jiordal and took half the pledge jewels with her to Agatha. She was originally an Agathan goddess and was deceiving the pope of Jiordal the entire time. Thanks to that, Jiordal went to war with the newly empowered Agatha to retrieve the jewels. Many lives were lost, and despite their religious differences, the two exhausted nations agreed to avoid further conflict with a ceasefire.[1]
However, according to the tablets in Everastanzetta, a dragonborn was chosen by a god and became the victor of the first Selection Trial, allowing them to become the first divine proxy, as they introduced the Pledge Jewels to the residents of the Underground World.[2]
This inconsistency was resolved when it was revealed that Arcana was actually Genedonov, the Goddess of Absurdity, as she was originally born a draconid, who became a dragonborn because of the dragon nucleus inside of her after being devoured by the Royal Dragon. After ascending to divinity, she spread the pledge jewels among both countries to instigate a conflict between them in retaliation for both countries betraying her in the past.
Synopsis[]
Selection Trial Arc[]
King Lycius was granted a pledge jewel by Cardinal Ahid, as the king made a pact with Enes Ne Mes, the Keeper of Emotions. He unveiled his pledge jewel and plan to the reincarnated Hero Kanon and his lover Misa, as the king used the pledge jewel to command Enes Ne Mes into trying to control Misa, but was unsuccessful as the two eventually defeated him.
Jiordal, Kingdom of the Divine Dragon Arc[]
During Class 1-2 visit to Jiorhaze, Eldmed became curious about the pledge jewels and opted to investigate them by pretending to trying to join the Church of Jiordal, as his student Naya followed him. They were later joined by Anos, Misha, Sasha, Eleonore and Zeshia; as all of them passed the initial baptism and were each able to obtain their own pledge jewel. During the Summoning Ceremony, Naya was able to summon a unique dragon, who Eldmed named Cannibal, possessing the ability to consume other dragons and assimilate their abilities. Intrigued by her potential, Eldmed manifested four Keepers, with Naya succeeding in making a pact with all of them.
Abilities[]
- Vessel: The Pledge Jewel serves as an auxiliary container for the user, as using the Underground World's summoning magic requires empty space in the source. Using summoning magic filled this unfilled void not with magic but with the pact made with a deity and the spell formula used to summon them. Most people didn't have such space in their source, so they used the pledge jewel ring as a vessel instead. The more pacts formed and the more summonings made, the less space there was in the vessel. If the limit of the vessel was reached, the gemstone would shatter.[3]
- Control: By pouring magical power into the pledge jewel, the user can control the creatures they have summoned, including even gods, and force them to follow their instructions.[4]
- Summoning: Due to the divine order that accompanies the Underground World's summoning magic, it is much more powerful than its aboveground counterpart. By using the pledge jewels, the user can summon dragons, gods, or other powerful beings that they have made a pact with. The summoning magic used is unique in that doesn't rely on how much magic one has, but the size of one's vessel or rather their source. This means that even users with a low amount of magic power can use the pledge jewel, provided they have a suitable vessel.[3]

Trivia[]
- Anos, Misha, Sasha, Eleonore and Zeshia were all able to obtain pledge jewels from the time they visited the Jiordal Church and underwent the baptism, but have yet to use them otherwise.[3]
- Regular Pledge Jewels have a lower internal capacity than the Selection Pledge Jewels, as a regular pledge jewel typically stores and summons one god. However, it was revealed that if a person has sufficient space in their source, they can exceed the limit and summon multiple gods at once, similar to the way the Selected Eight do.[5]
