Phantom Beast

Phantom Beasts (幻獣, Genjū^?) are a race of incorporeal beings from the Disaster Abyss World Evezeino.

Overview

Origin

Similar to Spirits, which are embodiments of legends and folklore, phantom beasts are embodiments of craving. The desire for dominance, love, appetite, order, and approval. These natural desires gather in Evezeino's Disaster Abyss of Craving, where they mix and muddle together into an aberrant black craving.

Behavior

They possess people and make them act upon unreasonable cravings, causing many races to die out. The Phantom Demons survived by adapting to the phantom beasts, but even then, they are still maddened by craving. However, it is possible for one to retain their reason, either by having indomitable willpower or a craving that surpasses the phantom beast's.

Diet

Phantom beasts can possess any race, but they usually cannot control their bodies at will, only influence them. This is because their cravings can be offset by their hosts' own cravings. For this reason, they prefer to attack Hayfolians, who are considered Prey Spirit Cups (餌食霊杯, Ejikirei-hai^?) due to their extremely low cravings.

Since only a few vessels can withstand the phantom beast, their bodies will perish in a few months. When this happens, they attack other Prey Spirit Cups for their next body.

Incarnation

Phantom beasts are incorporeal from birth, they cannot be seen by the average Magic Eyes and cannot be destroyed either. They take the form of invisible, amorphous mud. However, there are two methods by which they can gain a physical body:

• Through the Phoenix of Gestation and the craving of childbirth, it is possible to connect a woman's womb with the Disaster Abyss of Craving, causing her children to be born as an incarnated phantom beast.
• Alternatively, they can devour the Prey Spirit Cup's source to gain their body. Approximately 60% of phantom beasts, mainly low-class ones, gained bodies this way.
