Linfa Assis (リンファ・アシス Rinfa Ashisu?) is a singer from the Minstrel World Wispwends that aims to become the next Minstrel Suzerain.
Appearance[]
Linfa is a girl who has her hair pulled back in a bun and a red flower in her hair. She wears a cloak worn by travelers, but it is of high quality and gorgeous, somewhat like a costume for the stage.[1]
Personality[]
Linfa is a dreamer who wants to fundamentally change Wispwends so anyone can enjoy singing, regardless of their race. Despite everything that has happened to her, Linfa never gave up and continued working hard to prove she could be as good of a singer as Theta. However, a small part of herself doubted if she could actually overcome this reality. As a result, her songs never reached their full potential. It wasn't until the First Selection that Linfa finally began to believe in herself.
History[]
Linfa was born in the remote village of Toral to parents who ran a musical instrument workshop. Ever since she was five, she was trained to follow in the family's footsteps. However, she often skipped training to go to the town square. A year ago, she met a Song Maestro girl around her age named Theta. Despite being an Instrument Maestro, Linfa was encouraged to sing alongside Theta, and she learned the joy of singing for the first time. The two promised to become minstrels together and practiced singing whenever they could.[2]
Many years passed, and Linfa would soon learn how unattainable her dream truly was. Though she wasn't eligible for the Singing Academy's entrance exam, the examiner finally conceded. The goal was to deliver a song that could be heard as far as 1 kilometer, but for an Instrument Maestro whose breaths turn into flames, raising their voice created even more flames. While her peers could sing for tens of minutes and to an hour, it took everything for Linfa to even finish the exam. She vomited blood and collapsed, while her vocal cords and throat were seriously burned.[2]
Linfa regained her voice by the time it was to enroll in the academy, but a tearful Theta apologized, as she didn't understand the difference between their people. Her selfish dream for them to sing together pushed Linfa to do something unreasonable, so she should forget their promise, as Linfa could never become a minstrel.[2]
However, Linfa never gave up. If she weren't eligible to enter the Singing Academy, she would just have to become the Minstrel Suzerain and change the rules, as the only requirement was being the best singer in Wispwends. She eventually found friends who supported her dream, and together they formed the Red Star Singing Group.[3]
Synopsis[]
Magic Bullet World Arc[]
Linfa meets and befriends Ellen Mihace while lost in Wispwends' capital, but the girls from Linfa's group and the Anos Fan Union eventually find them. After hearing Linfa's story, Ellen decides to support her in the upcoming Minstrel God's Selection and teaches her the spell Gald Aske, which will supply Linfa with extra magic power so she can maintain her chorus magic longer.
When the First Selection begins, Linfa temporarily reunites with Theta before heading over to their respective stages. Even though all 124 candidates sing in unison, only one song can be heard by each individual. There are no spectators for Linfa's Limnet, as everybody is watching Theta's broadcast, who is the world's number-one singer. However, her song is incomparable to that of the Red Star Singing Group, whose members staked everything on Linfa's dreams. Their passionate song quickly swayed the masses and earned them first place.
In the end, both Linfa and Theta advance to the Final Selection, but her success threatens the Blue Flower Singing Company, the group backing Theta. They send people to kidnap the Red Star Singing Group, but Illya manages to send Linfa flying away, as she must win the Selection no matter what. Eldmed finds her and agrees to rescue the others if she becomes the Minstrel Suzerain, putting more pressure on her to win.
When Linfa is declared absent, Theta pleads with the officials to reconsider, as she knows her company is involved. For the first time, Theta is honest with her feelings of wanting to sing together with Linfa, leaving the audience speechless. This buys enough time for Linfa to arrive, and they each sing about the day they split up. Their songs are alternately heard by the audience but soon begin to blend as they become a duet. However, without chorus magic, Linfa eventually collapses and vomits blood. She congratulates Theta, but her friend refuses the win, as Linfa is more deserving of it than she is. Theta then confesses foul play from the Blue Flower Singing Company, making it difficult to determine who is the winner.
Suddenly, the Anos Fan Union begins singing as Ellen conveys her feelings to Linfa. The song inspires her to continue singing despite her extremely coarse and weak voice, while Theta helps her by casting chorus magic so Linfa's voice can be heard throughout the world. Their most powerful and passionate song is directed to the Divine Song Rodwell, Wispwends' Chief God, who indicates its support by illuminating their path. Though there's supposed to be only one winner, no one questions it. They eventually make it to the Garden Theater, where everyone is waiting, and begin singing. The two achieved the impossible and became Minstrel Suzerains together, resulting in Wispwends' dual Sovereigns.
Abilities[]
- Flame of Creation: Instrument Maestros have special vocal organs that turn their breath into special flames. These white flames can be kneaded by hand to form musical instruments whose melodies can't be found in other worlds.
- Expert Singer: Linfa's greatest talent is her ability to resonate with people's hearts.[4] She was able to compete against her friend and number one singer, Theta Mern, despite not being a Song Maestro. In fact, she was chosen as the Minstrel Suzerain alongside Theta.
