Dragons about to attack Anosh.
Dragons (竜 Ryū?) are a species that inhabit the Underground World.
Overview[]
Dragons are fierce creatures that possess tremendous combat ability. They have two long, pointed horns, sharp claws, and enormous wings on their back. Their massive bodies were covered in tough metallic scales, and they were also highly resistant to magic.[1] This combination made them particularly hard to kill.
Two thousand years ago, the dragons were a menace that fed on both humans and demons alike, prompting the Demon King Anos to send his army to exterminate them.[2] They were thought to have gone extinct, but they survived by burrowing into the Underground World, where they ultimately gave birth to their humanoid descendants— the draconids.
Powers and Abilities[]
Dragons are creatures who possess vast magical and physical abilities while being highly resistant to either attribute, especially towards Nedra.[1] According to Lay, Shin avoids hitting their scales so as not to blunt his Demon Swords. As a result, the easiest way to kill a dragon is by beheading them, as there is a gap in their neck where there are no scales.[3]
They possess the ability to breathe fire and fly due to their wings, but because they are primarily subterranean creatures, they can't fly for long periods of time.[4] They are powerful diggers that employ their pointed horns and magic to excavate. Since they dwell underground, dragons hunt people on the surface by sensing their movement through the ground's vibration. They build speed and then burst through the surface to attack them. However, this is usually accompanied by an increasing tremor, so it's possible to predict where they will appear and ambush them instead.[5]
To hide their nests, dragons emit a dragon cry, a magic sound wave that originates from their vocal cords. This creates a special magic field called dragon domain that hides all magic inside and obstructs the Magic Eyes.[6] It also disrupts spatial magic such as Gatom.[7]
In addition, dragons possess special digestive organs that allow them to devour their prey's source, rendering the possibility of reincarnation impossible.[8] Together with their womb, which acts similar to Syrica, the devoured sources consolidate into a single new life— a dragonborn. They are the direct children of dragons and ancestors to the draconid race.[9]
Types[]
Ancient Dragons[]
Older dragons whose skin and scales are a deeper shade of green. They cannot be easily restrained by the dragon barrier magic De Jerias.[8]
Variants[]
Rare varieties that are characterized by their unusual colors. It is recommended to run if they're ever encountered.[8] They have additional abilities compared to regular dragons, like freezing breath for the blue variant or sticky mucus from the Royal Dragon.
Messenger of the Gods[]
When summoning a dragon with Liteld, it is not a dragon from the underground that gets called, but a source that comes from the divine realm and given a physical body by the Pledge Jewel. These envoys of the gods bless the lives of the people by providing them with shelter, food, and transportation.[10]
