Diego Ijeiska[2] (ディエゴ・イジェイシカ Diego Ijeishika?), formerly known as Diego Kanon Ijeiska, was the headmaster of the Hero Academy and teacher of the selective class Jerga-Kanon. He is a source clone created by Eleonore Bianca.

Appearance[]

Diego is a middle-aged man with notable bags under his eyes and messy brown hair tied in a ponytail. He wears a brown coat and white pants.

Personality[]

Like most of his elite students, Diego is arrogant toward the Demon King Academy and its students. This obsession with human superiority is demonstrated when he belittles Delsgade's students at any given opportunity, going as far as cheating during magic demonstrations and exams to humiliate them.

History[]

Diego is one of only two known clone types created by Eleonore using suitable sources from past heroes as templates, the other being Zeshia Bianca. Because the Diego-type specializes in education and was the most susceptible to Jerga's voice, which hid inside Aske, he was the perfect teacher to instill hatred in the new generation of heroes.[3]

Like the top four students of Jerga-Kanon, Diego believed himself to be the Hero Kanon's reincarnation and wrongfully took his name. As the Hero Academy's headmaster, he secretly prepared for a second war against Dilhade and invited the Demon King Academy to an educational exchange to create justification for that.

Synopsis[]

Hero Academy Arc[]

Diego and Ledriano

Diego mocking the Demon King Academy.

On the first day of the academy exchange, Diego introduces himself to the Demon King Academy and begins a knowledge competition. It soon becomes apparent that the humans don't have an educational exercise in mind but a game to ridicule demon students for not being versed in holy magic. However, Diego is forced to end it early when Anos proves him wrong by turning a decorative sword into a holy sword, debunking his claim that Anos grossly exaggerated the potential of Lyfid.

The next day, the Hero Academy cheats during the inter-academy exam by mixing holy water in the underwater battlefield, giving them a deadly advantage over the Demon King Academy. When Meno Historia requests to cancel the exam, Diego blames her students for being weak and downplays the effects of holy water on their bodies. Anos challenges Jerga-Kanon to a fight, but Diego calls him a coward for fighting Jerga-Kanon when they're exhausted from the previous battle. However, Diego's students accept despite his protest, confident of their abilities.

Anos Fight Episode11

A demonized Diego.

At some point during the exam, he discovers Misha trespassing in the temple beneath the holy lake and brutally attacks her. Anos eventually rescues her and then kills Diego, but revives him later so he can turn the false hero into a demon to reflect his ugly heart. Anos also removes Diego's source from his body and squeezes it, causing him to writhe in pain. Anos did so to show him who the real Kanon was, someone who continued fighting for peace despite having seven sources and therefore taking several times more pain. In the end, Anos crushes his source and ends Diego's existence.

The next day, another Diego shows up to class and informs them that Jerga-Kanon will be absent due to fatigue. Anos notes that he had the same magic wavelength and source as Diego from before but no recollection of what happened the previous day.

Diego using Limnet over Azeshion

Diego declaring war.

After Avos Dilhevia stole the Holy Sword Evansmana, Diego sends a magical broadcast across Azesion to inform them about the Demon King's return and uses Evansmana's theft to declare war on Dilhade. He personally leads the Demon King Subjugation Battalion, but even after the Demon King's death and the retreat of the enemy army, Diego still wanted to keep going until he killed every last demon. His deputy commander protests, so Diego cuts off his arm. Eventually, all of the soldiers protest, causing Diego to become increasingly furious. This leads him to get possessed by Aske before falling unconscious and collapsing as Jerga returns from the dead.

Great Spirit Arc[]

Sometime after Jerga's defeat and the peaceful conclusion of the war, Diego was punished for violating military law. Despite the human army winning, he tried to continue the war by cutting off his second-in-command's arm. The authorities also found out that Diego had been planning war against Dilhade for quite some time; as a result, Azesion wanted to settle this by declaring him a war criminal. In addition, with the appearance of the real Kanon and his usage of Evansmana, Diego and the other heroes were declared as fakes and stripped from the name "Kanon".

Relationships[]

Eleonore Bianca[]

Diego has a deep hatred of Eleonore and deems her a failure due to her inability to hate demons. He views her as a tool below himself to kill demons.

Zeshia Bianca[]

Like Eleonore, he views Zeshia as a mindless tool that should be used to kill demons. He possesses no sympathy for her and is more than willing to order dozens of Zeshias to perform suicidal tactics.

Trivia[]

  • As a clone, several of him exist, each identical to the one before, down to their source. This is how Diego is able to reappear even after having his source completely destroyed, as another one takes his place.
  • During the Azesion-Dilhade War, Diego proclaimed himself as the true reincarnation of Hero Kanon in front of Lay Grandsley, Kanon's real reincarnation. When Lay dared Diego to pull Evansmana from the ground, the holy sword rejected him, causing his troops to abandon him.
