Demon

Demons (魔族, Mazoku^?) are one of the four main races, alongside Humans, Spirits, and Gods.

Overview

Demons are a warlike race with a long history of infighting, as they each fought for control over the territories of the demon nation, Dilhade. They follow a hierarchical structure where weaker demons would pledge themselves to a more powerful demon, either for protection or because they valued strength. When the leader was defeated and killed, it was common for the demons under them to become a disorganized rabble. Despite this, they were able to set aside their internal disputes when faced with an outside threat, such when the Demon King of Tyranny and the Four Evil Kings joined forces against the alliance of humans, spirits and gods.

Appearance-wise, many demons are indistinguishable from humans, but some have prominent features like horns or wings.

Powers and Abilities

Demons have long lifespans that differ depending on lineage and heritage. The average lifespan is around three hundred years, but powerful demons can extend their life and are capable of living for thousands of years using magic. Demons are also stronger than humans in both magic power and strength, as they can withstand injuries that would otherwise be fatal to humans. Unlike humans, demons have no differences in ability based on gender.

Demons also have an affinity for Demon Swords, though a demon would have to subjugate and make it acknowledge them as their master. They also have immunity to parasites and end up dominating them instead. The effect still works even if the parasite is a dragon or god, provided that an individual has sufficient magical power.

It's been well noted that due to the lack of great conflicts, present-day Demons lack the ability to match demons from two thousand years ago. In addition, due to the segregation of demons, the pure-blooded demons have been provided with royalist privileges that hindered them from reaching beyond their potential, while the mixed-blooded demons were forced to remain stagnant. However, with the Demon King Reordination Ceremony, the educational barriers came down, and both pure and mixed-blooded demons began receiving proper instruction, reaching a level that almost rivals the powerful ancient demons.

Weaknesses

Despite all their strengths, demons are particularly weak against the holy attribute. While Holy Swords and holy magic can seal their magic, holy water can be used to drain their magic power and weaken their overall abilities.

Groups

Demon Royalty

Royalty (皇族, Kōzoku^?), or simply Royals, are demons who directly descended from the Demon King of Tyranny and have kept his blood pure by marrying other members from the Demon King clan. After Anos created the Seven Demon Elders from his blood and magic, those seven used their own blood and magic to further create more pure-blood descendants, until they could have children naturally without the use of magic.

In modern Dilhade, they have a lot of political power and privileges due to a misunderstanding regarding the Demon King's prophecy of reincarnation causing blood purity to be held in the highest regard. As such, their duty is to leave behind pure-blood descendants; and a royal who has a non-pureblood child will be excluded from royalty, with the addition that their family members from 3 generations will also be excluded from royalty. Anos has expressed his disgust over the social class as it goes against everything he believes in.

Mixed-Blood

Mixed-Blood (混血, Konketsu^?), or Hybrids, is an umbrella term for any demon whose blood is impure due to being mixed with another race, or bloodline apart from the Demon King's. Due to the discriminatory nature of the royal demons, mixed-bloods are shunned and excluded from major political decisions. While it is believed that they are weaker than royal demons, Anos states that it only takes one drop of the Demon King's blood to inherit the aspects of the founding ancestor.

After Anos abolished the segregation of demons with the support of several high officials and the Seven Demon Elders, a new order of egalitarianism was established between the royal and the mixed-blood demons. As a result, there are no longer distinctions between the two. Anyone who dared to defy the new order (such as Zerceus Angart and his sect) had to face the merciless wrath of the founding ancestor.
