The Cohort of Chaos (混沌の世代 Konton no Sedai?), also known as Chaotic Cohort[1] or Generation of Chaos,[2] refers to a handful of first-year students who excel in both power and ability. They're considered prodigies among all of the students who attend the academy. Due to their outstanding potential, it was believed that one of them could be the reincarnation of the Demon King.[3]
Synopsis[]
Demon King Academy Arc[]
An Owl familiar informs Anos of the Demon King Academy and the Cohort of Chaos after giving him an invitation to the school.[3]
When Emilia instructs her students to join a team leader of their choosing, many of them talk about Sasha and her status as one of the Cohort of Chaos.[4]
Demon Sword Tournament Arc[]
After Lay transfers to Class 1-2, a student recognizes him as one of the Cohort of Chaos. When the former attempts to join Anos' team, Emilia tells him to be mindful of his position as one of the Cohort of Chaos since Anos is a Misfit.[5]
Great Spirit Arc[]
Following the skirmish with Azesion, Anos and his group were approached by Gerad Azlema, one of the Cohort of Chaos, who introduced himself as a servant of Misa's father and asked that she follow him to meet him. While Misa does go, Anos has Lay accompany her due to finding Gerad suspicious. He presents the other half of the demon sword that she possesses, and as she tries to take it, he attempts to stab her. However, Lay managed to cut of the tip of the sword and prevent Misa from being injured. The two men proceed to fight, and while Lay initially seems to be at a disadvantage due to Gerad's magic shield's curse effect, he quickly destroys it and overwhelms him. Before Lay can get answers out of him, Gerad commits suicide to reincarnate.
Meanwhile, another of the Cohort of Chaos, Linka Theorness, kidnaps Meno Historia from the third-year classroom, as Misha and Sasha pursue her. She leads them into a forest where she drops Meno and reveals she just kidnapped her to draw out the Necron sisters as she attacks them. The three fight and Linka initially has the upper hand, as she defeats Sasha and stabs Misha through the chest. However, she is defeated by Misha who uses her Magic Eyes of Creation to create a pseudo-Delsgade to transmute Linka into a snowflake.
Upon the Demon King Reordination Ceremony, Anos abolished the segregation of demons with the support of several high officials and the Seven Demon Elders, a new order of egalitarianism was established between the royal and the mixed-blood demons. As a result, there are no longer distinctions between the two. Thus, any student whether pure-blooded or mixed-blooded demons are allowed to be part of the group so long as they're the academy's top students through growth and skill.

Trivia[]
- Because pureblood demons were believed to be stronger than mixed-blood demons, only the former were considered part of the Cohort of Chaos.
- After the Demon King Reordination Ceremony, members of the Cohort of Chaos were no longer seen as potential for being the founding ancestor, but merely among the academy's top students.
- All students from the Cohort of Chaos that have appeared thus far have been reincarnations of figures from the Mythical Age.
