Camus Anfas (カミュ・アンファス Kamyu Anfasu?) is demon who served the Demon King of Tyranny, Anos Voldigoad, two thousand years ago.[1]

Appearance[]

Camus was a demon with markings on his face that contained magic power.[1]

Personality[]

Camus was a proud warrior who fought with honor, no matter who his enemy was, be it a demon or human. He would never lose on purpose and fought with all his might.[1]

History[]

When he was little, Camus went to Azesion with his father, but the humans killed him. Having survived, Camus became stranded in Azesion and began living alone in a forest near the rural town of Lauhan. One day, he saved a human girl around his age from a giant snake, so she started visiting him. Because Aria kept coming back, even after learning he was a demon, the two became close friends. Camus taught her many things about the forest, such as the plants and the animals, and the two eventually fell in love.[2]

When Aria turned ten, she informed Camus that she was chosen as a Saintess and would be relocated to the Holy City Karnstein, where no demon could enter, so they would never meet again. However, Camus knew this day would come and gave her a Michens Necklace, telling her to wait for him, as he would become strong enough to take her back. Camus eventually returned to Dilhade, where he trained for the next ten years, becoming one of Demon King Anos' most valuable subordinates and a commander who led his troops.[2]

During the siege of the Fortress City Gedde, Camus didn't capture any of the key fortifications and left them untouched. He also fought against Hero Kanon and lost, even though the people were afraid, which made them unable to empower the Hero with Aske. After his defeat, Camus signed a Zecht stating he would never harm humans again and was spared by the Hero. Due to his uncharacteristic failure, he was accused of holding back and being in cahoots with the humans, so he was brought before the Demon King Anos.[1]

After clarifying that he didn't side with the humans, he thanked Demon King Anos for everything and announced his intention to leave the Demon King Army. He had a promise to fulfill, which was more important than serving the Demon King. This angered the other demons, who wanted to execute him. However, Anos took it upon himself to kill Camus and told everyone else to leave or risk being caught in the destruction. After killing Camus with overwhelming power, Anos resurrected him and told him he was free to go. Because no one knew about this, the history books mistakenly say that Camus was brutally punished for committing the greatest betrayal against the Demon King.[1]

The real reason why Camus didn't conquer Gedde was because the fortress city stood between the demons and Karnstein, where Aria was.[2] After his fake execution, Camus immediately made his way there but was caught near the border. While he could easily deal with the God of Magic Bullets Beztsum, he couldn't do anything against the bombardment from the human soldiers, who were protected due to Kanon's Zecht. However, Anos suddenly appeared and killed all the enemies, using Syrica on them afterward. He followed Camus because he dropped his Michens Necklace, which had a hidden engraving wishing Aria happiness. After Camus explained his relationship with Karnstein's Saintess and their promise to each other, Anos decided to help him.[3]

While Anos openly attacked Karnstein to draw the humans away, Camus snaked into the Prayer Tower to meet with Aria. This was the first time Anos encountered Kanon, who became angry after learning of Camus' execution, as he was a warrior whom he respected. During their fierce battle, the light of De Rianes suddenly appeared and disappeared. After defeating Kanon, Anos went up the tower and found the bodies of the couple holding hands and smiling.[4] The human sages also found their bodies, but they were disgusted by Aria's betrayal and tried to chop Camus' hand. However, Anos brought down the tower and retrieved their bodies. Upon seeing them, Kanon briefly prayed for them and listened to Anos' request. As a result, he buried the couple in their hometown of Lauhan and put their Michens Necklace in a shrine, as customary, near Karnstein.[5]

It was believed that Aria willingly gave her source to activate De Rianes while Camus followed her into the afterlife. But in reality, the couple chose to reincarnate, believing that the Demon King and Hero would set aside their differences and finally bring peace to the world. When this became a reality, the two retrieved their Michens Necklace and had children in the new era. Their necklace became an heirloom and was passed down to their descendants, eventually reaching the hands of Izabella and Anos, who was glad their love story had a satisfying conclusion.[5]

Abilities[]

  • Immense Magic Power: Camus was among one of the strongest subordinates of the Demon King. Even though five other demons were pinning him down, he looked so casual, as if he could shake them off any time he wanted.[1]
  • Master Fighter: He was said to be close to the Four Evil Kings in physical combat.[1]

Relationships[]

Aria[]

Aria was Camus' childhood friend and soulmate, but their love was forbidden as their countries were at war. When Aria was forced to become a Saintess, Camus promised her that he would become strong enough to take her away and that she should wait for that day. He was determined to keep his promise, even if he would likely die invading Karnstein alone while being unable to harm any humans.[2]

Anos Voldigoad[]

Camus served Demon King Anos and was thankful for everything he had done for him, as he was the reason Camus became strong.[1] He hid his relationship with Aria because he didn't want to disappoint the Demon King, unaware that Anos had no problem with Camus loving a human woman. In reality, Anos valued him so much that he went to Azesion to dissuade Camus from going to his certain death.[3]

Hero Kanon[]

Camus was an honorable warrior who earned Hero Kanon's respect, as he fought exclusively against soldiers and even protected civilians from stray attacks. That's why Kanon couldn't help but show him mercy. Upon learning that Anos had killed Camus, anger swelled in his heart.[4]
