| — Aeges to Anos in "The Spirit Teacher" |
Aeges Code (イージェス・コード Ījesu Kōdo?) is one of the Four Evil Kings, known as the Netherworld King (冥王 Meiō?). He is a great demon who competed with Demon King Anos during the Mythical Age.
Appearance[]
Aeges is a middle-aged man with a rugged body and short white hair. He wears dark armor with crimson accents and a large eye patch that covers half of his face. He is always seen with a strict look.
Personality[]
Aeges is prudent and often serious but can be pretty laid back and relaxed during peaceful times. He cares deeply for those he considers close to him. He is also a man of his word, who detests trickery and manipulation.
History[]
Jeph[]
Aeges was an orphan who was abandoned by his parents, but he was found by Ceris Voldigoad, who took him in as his disciple and named him Jeph, meaning "first" in ancient tongue. Ceris eventually formed the Phantom Knights, nameless ghosts who devoted everything to creating a peaceful world. For the sake of the future, they sacrificed their present.[2]
After finding out that his wife Luna was in danger, Ceris led the Phantom Knights to the Tseilon village, which was taken over by Hero Graham's men. Though they found humans torturing Luna, Ceris deduced that it was a trap and told the Phantom Knights to canvas their surroundings instead, angering Jeph, who tried to save her on his own and had to be restrained by his comrades. Ceris' inaction would force their unborn child to protect Luna instead, but he was unable to protect her from Graham, who fatally wounded her. Jeph tried to get his master to comfort his dying wife, but Ceris was as cold as ever. Luna herself understood this and told Jeph that it was fine, she led a happy life.[3]
Because the Phantom Knights were forbidden from having any type of attachment, Ceris abandoned his son in the city of Goanel. Jeph, who was unable to accept this, secretly took control of Goanel and became the Netherworld King Aeges Code. To remove suspicion from himself, he left his subordinates in charge. When the Phantom Knights eventually came to investigate, they could not find anything about Goanel's mysterious ruler, as Jeph knew how they operated and planted false information. However, Ceris already knew Jeph was behind it and confronted him. When he mentioned the missing Anos, Jeph let out his secret, so Ceris brought him to the Thundering Volcano, where Anos had gone to hide due to Jeph's constant surveillance. He showed Jeph that Anos was strong enough to take care of himself and that he had the potential to surpass them.[4]
Eventually, the Phantom Knights confronted Bomiras Helos, who knew the whereabouts of the man Ceris was looking for. Despite agreeing to spare him in exchange for the information, Ceris circumvented the Zecht by ordering Jeph to kill him instead. However, Jeph questioned if this was necessary, as Bomiras was a demon who also desired peace and Anos would soon unify Dilhade. During their dispute, Bomiras created an opening by revealing that Jeph is Aeges Code, allowing him to transfer into his real body. Since the Zecht only applied to Bomiras' fake body, Ceris was able to kill him before he could escape. Due to his inability to follow orders, Ceris expelled Jeph and told him to live as Aeges instead.[5]
However, Jeph couldn't abandon the man to whom he was indebted and followed the Phantom Knights to Graham's hideout. Even though his comrades were quickly eliminated, their sacrifice allowed Ceris to ready his ultimate spell, Ravia Neold Galvarizen. However, Graham correctly identified Ceris' only weakness and took Jeph hostage. Realizing why his master never showed any weakness, Jeph told Ceris to attack them without hesitation, as had finally understood the role of a Phantom Knight. However, Ceris was unable to and pierced Jeph's eye instead. The attack shook his source and caused his dimensional abilities to awaken for the first time, allowing him to teleport away as Graham cut several of Ceris' limbs. Before he fully teleported out, Ceris told his beloved disciple that times were changing and the dead were not needed in a peaceful world, so he should live on as a king, as Aeges Code.[6]
If he hadn't been there on that fateful day, Ceris might have been able to destroy Graham, and thus Aeges lived with regret for over two thousand years. That regret was so great that he turned back on his master's dying wish and became the same pragmatist as Ceris. On that day, Aeges discarded all naivety and became a true ghost, devoting himself to walking the path of his master, all in order to defeat Graham.[7]
Aeges Code[]
He continued to pursue Graham, but the human found it more amusing to run away and deny him his revenge.[7] As Aeges Code, he became well-known as one of the Four Evil Kings, powerful demons who were second in power only to the Demon King Anos Voldigoad. Despite fighting often, the five worked together during the Great War against the human/spirit/god alliance.
Like many of the prominent demons from the Mythical Age, Aeges moved away from Dilhade for Hero Kanon's plan to work. He ended up in Aharthern, where he began attending the Spirit School alongside the other Evil Kings. However, at some point, his subordinates were taken hostage by the Spirit King, forcing him to remain there.
Synopsis[]
Great Spirit Arc[]
Two thousand years later, Anos reincarnates and visits the Spirit School with his friends. Because the classroom is isolated in another dimension when class starts, Aeges uses his magic spear to break in and take a seat. He also has a short exchange with Anos, telling him that sacrifices must be made to prevent further tragedies.

A week later, everyone passes the test and takes the spirit trial. Aeges makes it to Gennul's trial, where he is joined by Anos and Rina. Although only one may pass, Aeges secretly communicates with Anos to give him the win in exchange for his help. Gennul then takes off at lightning speed, but Aeges destroys his body with his magic spear, which can connect spaces. Since Gennul's real body is still intact, he manages to spirit away Rina, but this clues Anos on how to capture the Wolf of Hiding. When he finally catches Gennul, Aeges strikes the spirit and puts a marker inside his inner dimension, allowing him to teleport later and rescue those Gennul spirited away.
Jiordal, Kingdom of the Divine Dragon Arc[]
Sasha threatening Aeges.
At some point, Aeges and Kaihilam join Gadeciola's Phantom Knights, and they set out to destroy Revalschned, the God of Traces. As a result of this, they come into conflict with the Demon King's subordinates, who keep them busy while Anos and Arcana meet with the god. Sasha threatens Aeges with Vebzud, but he is unfazed by it and launches his spear at Anos. However, Sasha perforates Aeges' arm with Vebzud, causing him to miss.
Eventually, Sasha becomes distracted by Misha's fight, allowing Aeges to pierce her abdomen. However, she is healed by her Phoenix Mantle and then fuses with her twin sister to become Aisha Necron. The twins use their Magic Eyes of Omneity to turn Aeges and Kaihilam's weapons into ice. They also attempt to transform the Evil Kings, but their vision is blocked by Ceris Voldigoad, the leader of the Phantom Knights and Anos' own father. Because Arcana manages to awaken Revalschned and let him escape, Ceris and his allies retreat for the day.
Anos later meets with Ceris in Everastanzetta and learns that Jiordal intends to attack the surface. However, he rejects Ceris' offer to work together and leaves Shin and Eldmed to watch over the Phantom Knights. Once he is gone, Aeges pins down Eldmed with his spear while Kaihilam strikes his vital points. Because of his near-death experience, Eldmed unlocks the powers of the Heavenly Father. However, Kaihilam curses him so that all his spells target him instead. As a result, Aeges is able to freely attack Eldmed, who can't defend himself because both his offensive and healing magic get redirected to Kaihilam. He is about to land the finishing blow but suddenly dies. Eldmed reveals that Kaihilam only sealed the Heavenly Father's magic, not his own, so he secretly used a killing curse on Aeges. Even though he used Ingall, Aeges would keep dying because the Hourglasses of Conflagration remain active. Due to his craftiness, Ceris ends up signing Eldmed's Zecht and stands down.
Agatha Prophecy Arc[]
When Lay Grandsley pretends to be a god to see where Gadeciola would take Arcana, two Phantoms Knights arrive and take them to an anti-divine prison. However, one of the knights realizes it has no effect on Lay, so his hand changes into a Supreme Dragon to taste his blood. Lay resists and cuts down the dragon into pieces, but it multiplies several times. Suspicious, the knight attempts to contact the rest of the troops, but his partner uses Dehiddatem to send him and the dragons to another dimension. Aeges then reveals himself and criticizes Anos' way of doing things.
When asked why he's helping them, Aeges tells them he couldn't let Arcana fall into Ceris' hands. He also reveals that the Supreme Dragon is actually Galvadorion, Overlord Veaflare's Selection God, whom she twisted into a god-eating dragon under Ceris' suggestion. When Lay asks him why he joined the Phantom Knights, Aeges replies that it's to repay a debt from two thousand years ago, so he should tell Anos to stay away. Before leaving, he tells Lay that his fellow disciple, Kashim, is alive and that he has reincarnated as a draconid.
Later, Aeges reappears with Kaihilam to stop Aisha from reaching the pillar room, as her power was needed to create a new Sky Pillar Sword to support the falling dome. However, Shin gives her an opening while he stays to fight them.
Father of the Demon King Arc[]
Abilities[]
- Source of Blood: Aeges has a particular source that allows him to control blood. The more Aeges approaches destruction, the more blood his source generates and the more powerful his spears become. His blood contains powerful magic that works in conjunction with his spear. The true power of his source is the ability to cross dimensions. His blood can be used to send people away until the end of the space-time continuum. If his source approaches destruction, then its power will warp him away to another location to escape danger, regardless of his own desires.[6]
- Immense Magic Power: As one of the Four Evil Kings, Aeges is considered one of the most powerful demons of the Mythical Age, as he possesses an extraordinary amount of magic power. According to Anos, Aeges is even more powerful in the present than he was in the Mythical Age.[8]
- Crimson Blood Spear Materialization : By infusing his blood with his magic power, he creates his Crimson Blood Spear, which is his main weapon. Even if it were to be destroyed, he could simply materialize another copy.
- Master Spearman: Aeges is considered to be the best spearman in all of Dilhade. He stated that he spent the last two thousand years honing his spear technique, becoming even stronger than before. He is capable of using his spear's Hidden Art.
- Borrowed Orders: By invoking Azept, he was able to possess the power of his Selection God, gaining access to the order that it possessed.
- Order of Water: Aeges gains the ability to create and control vast amounts of water, which he can use to attack or defend, as well as a means of blocking movement by creating water walls.
